Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

Right now. In this story line of we all made it up, inside a different emotions nearly like 24 hours after watching Advenger's End Game, there I wanted a peaceful evening, and yes I am havine one so far so good. Got nothing really blowing my gears, until someone pushes me there. Ah. Least I cannot trigger off the effects yet again.

doing favors for people..
I have a guy...who gets 50% off a major common household appliance.
I have 7 people who want in... Money in by Sunday, cash only.
Of course two people are jerking around. They've had a week. They are literally holding everything up.
"Tonights not good"

When you come in on a Saturday morning to work and find your colleague stating half the roster has disappeared off our spreadsheet!

W00t??

Inspects said spreadsheet and finds someone has deleted January through to the start of May!! Ahhh...

This is no accident! Lucky for us I protect the sheet so that every single action on the sheet is logged in the background.. Nice! :D

Upon further inspection we find the time and date, the 1st May at 15:19 by Windows User!! Noooo, fail!

Right, so we know it was not us as we have our user name entered into MS and it's not the OPs manager.. this narrows it down to 2 people, HR who edit the sheet as required or another...

This is a nightmare as there is no backup, so I am now having to re-create 4 months of the sheet, including all conditional formatting, range selection for calculation and any missing code as the user DELETED the bloody sheet! Why could they not have just cleared it?? Ha??

I am guessing the person responsible was probably trying to freeze the pane and thought the warning messages about data deletion was clearly not anything they needed to worry about..

Rant over...

So hows your Saturday going? :p

That's a real PITA having to renter the data. I hate having to redo things.
Not a great bank holiday in terms of weather is it? I guess that evens out after the last one was so sunny.
I'm expecting some gadgets being delivered, to connect my phone up to a monitor, and game controller simultaneously. Amazing that my phone is probably a more powerful device than the computer I'm writing this on (admittedly an old laptop).

I'm sorry for what you're dealing with, but your whole post left me feeling gobsmacked. Window$? Files that assorted people can edit, even deleting their entire contents, with no accountability? No backups? Why?!

30+ years ago I would have prevented such a catastrophe on UNIX with a combination of strategies. And I'd be doing it today on Linux (damn that brain tumor that made me stop working!).

I hope this unfortunate situation can be used as a learning tool. It's uncovered some clear problems/weaknesses, but they're problems that are fixable. :)

It's all backup thanks @MoodyBlues

I've kept the original and right protected it so no one can alter it as it still stores valuable traceable edits that we may need later in the year and created a backup on the new file.

That is the problem, too many people with access to the file when in reality only a few should have access.

Another thing that's grinding my gears right now...

A year ago I requested a new desktop as our struggles quite badly at times and again 3 months ago. (2gb of ram!!) And it looked like we were getting one as site wide new PCs arrived.

Yeah... we were not on the upgrade list! o_O:oops: Now I have to chase the OPs manager every few weeks to see "how it's going.."

WTF Firefox? You close all my pins, kill EVERY SINGLE ONE of my extensions because "Add-ons that can change your browser's settings without your consent or steal your information have become increasingly common."

Let's not mention my browser changing my browser's settings without any warning, let alone something resembling consent.
