As the HTC Evo 4Gs are slowly making their way into the hands of people (after the Google I/O event), it seems that 720p videos are making their way onto Youtube. I've collected a handful so that people could see what was representative of the Evo's video. I've noted whether they are indoors or outdoors since the amount of light can have a significant impact on the quality of the video.

Enjoy!

Note: These are not my videos and many have made appearances in this forum already. Thanks to those that have provided footage!

the bad audio makes the camcorder worthless, IMO. but i dont take too many videos so its fine, i suppose. lol

Mhm. Seems to catch voice pretty well but any other noises, including wind, it seems to really distort.

It's a shame, I was going to use the EVO as my track-day camcorder at the drag strip, but guess that won't work.

Heh, wow some of those videos absolutely were terrible. Some were so so. All of the audio was terrible except maybe in the perfect scenario car. Now I can see why they aren't really pushing the 720p video in ads, its pretty worthless. Its a shame that HTC can't put decent sound and video capturing gear in a device. I don't even think the EVO quality video wise is up to par with the 3gs which is a year old now.

Probably one of the biggest and only negative for me about the device. Fortunately I don't shoot much video but it would have been nice if they didn't totally half ass it. Still going to get the device, maybe some software updates will help some with the quality and noise filtering but doubtful.

The audio sucks.

Well we do know that the mic on the Evo is actually on the bottom of the phone, instead of on the face. Maybe people are accidentally covering up the mic with their hand when they hold the phone for video recording? That wouldn't be a crazy explanation, especially when you're supposed to hold the phone landscape.

but that would make the audio muffled and it doesnt sound anything like that.

i guess im nitpicking but all the ads do highlight 720p recording.

I don't think it's bad at all really. What were you guys expecting?...it's a cell phone. lol

I was expecting a flagship device to meet or exceed what is currently available. The evo does neither from a video taking perspective. Still a nice device but I'm not going to sit here and make excuses for htc. Their cameras have generally always been sub par. It is unfortunate they didn't put a little more effort because I can guarantee you apple's next device will improve upon itself in that category.

Exceeding the iphone gs was a reasonable expectation. They missed the mark unfortunately on the video.
