Screen Brightness Slider Doesn't Work

i have recently got a new phone, being the Alcatel 1 series model 5033t-tsau.
i have set it up, but have come across a fairly major problem.
this being that the brightness slider, both in the drop down settings menu, and in the display section of the settings on the device, do not work.
thus the screen brightness is set to and remains at full brightness.
there is no automatice brightness function that i have found to be turned on or off.

please explain whether this is a common problem, and whether there is a solution, not involving a factory reset.

It's certainly not a common problem with Android. I can't say about that particular phone.

When you say the slider doesn't work, do you mean it won't move or it makes no difference where you set it?

i mean that the slider moves but the brightness doesn't change, and is stuck on the highest setting.

Hardware issue, take it to your carrier and complain
