Media Files being deleted

I've come across an issue of my note 9 deleting media files. These are audio files I've created from transition audio effects, intro/Outro audio, edited videos and more. I spend hours making these media elements and now my note 9 deletes them overnight. I've lost hundreds of hours worth of work and have no idea why.

On my SD card I have organized folders to store each type of element for quick edit and upload. Some of the folders are gone while just the files get deleted in other cases. 8 movies gone, 38 audio effects gone 12 intro/Outro songs gone, hours of B-roll footage gone.

Can anyone tell me why? I didn't buy a $1200+ device with 1tb of storage to have all my work vanish.

Ok, lets sit down and smoke this over.

So you have audio and video that missing.

the phone is not doing this on its own, so theres something you have given permission to that maybe moving things to a cloud and perhaps deleting it locally.

Let’s get some basics...

What carrier are you on?
Is this phone new or used?
Is it stock or rooted?
Ever sine you had the phone has it been doing this?

If you are a serious pro like you clam to read in your intro message, then you are most likely backing up your data on your phone to an offsite storage, like a cloud based system or even a local computer or NAS, yes?

So check to verify you have your data being safely backed up online and if he data is there, then you can begin to work backwards.

So more info is needed on how you backup your data and what program you use to do this, also where do you store your folders of data to? Local storage on the device, or to an SD card?

Ive been using the note 9 (ive 3 of them) since launch and it does not do anything i dont give it permission to do, so the solution to your issue will be easy because somewhere along the line you gave some app permission to delete .. or move... your data somewhere.

We will figure it out bro. I got you! ;)

I'll try to cover everything.

  • I've had zero issues with my Note 9 and swear it's the best device I've ever had. And I don't want any other device now. I would love to figure out what's going on.
  • I try to make sure any files (docs, or media) on my SD card. Out of habit from my PC I try to keep the main storage aka C Drive only for operating. So app data is stored on my internal. Anything I download or create I move to a folder on my SD
  • Last month I had a strange issue with Data usage. For some reason I went from average data monthly use from 2gb to end of May usage was 28gb. T-Mobile couldn't tell me why this happened. So when my billing cycle started over I did a factory reset on my Note. This is when my media files started to disappear
  • After I reset my phone I ejected my SD card by accident. I restarted it so it would read my card again. Not sure if this caused an issue.
  • I had 8 movies and about 20 audio files on my SD card before the reset. I didn't think to move them because when I reset my phones before, the SD card was never effected. The SD card this time was wiped of files but not folders, which was wierd to me.
  • Once my phone rebooted and was ready to go I moved other media files onto my device. Since SD Card storage has never given me an issue I was fine with formatting the thumb drive that held them (I needed the storage on the thumb drive)
  • Cloud storage - I have drive, Samsung cloud, and Dropbox connected. I've looked through them all and the files are not there.
  • Used or new- I've had this phone for months now and not once have I had a problem until last months data usage issue. I was on the line for 3 total hours (2 calls) with support and they did not find anything out of the ordinary. Although I firmly believe they had no idea what they were talking about. Some how nothing stood out over a 26gb jump for one month. I think my mobile data was being used while I was connected to my wifi. No idea why or how this happens.
  • Not rooted, I never bothered to learn to do this.
  • Backup - I usually just connect my phone to a PC and back up my SD card there. Since I make sure my files are on my SD Ive never bothered with internal drive backup. I just assumed that a cloud backup and account backup would take care of that.
I hope I gave enough details. Like I said, there is no way I want a different device. The Note 9 have given me everything I could want and more. And I especially think it was worth the money to get the model where I can have 1 tb of storage.

Hope I can get this fixed

What brand was the microSD card? I once bought a 64GB Samsung card but it turned out to be counterfeit and only had 2GB of storage on it. I could create folders all day but actually storing data in them. No.

We (Phandroians) figured it out starting on page 3 of this thread https://androidforums.com/threads/what-64-gb-microsd-for-note-3.768487/page-3
It's a MicroSD HD. It wierd, I've had the phone since it came out and the SD card since December and never had this happen. It's just wierd, it has to be an app doing it but I have no idea which one
