Clerk said my s8 is HOT

I financed and paid off an s8 through Verizon and went to get it activated through one of these secondary carriers
The clerk swapped sims and told me it's a t-mobil and has a code on it blocking activation like its stolen!
I've heard some places can have this cleared but I bought an s9 anyway so now I'm just trying to sell the damn thing.
Just don't need any hassle if i send it to an outfit that buys online.
Btw looking for who pays the most.
Thanks

That's strange if you actually purchased it originally from Verizon. Perhaps they were pulling your chain for some reason.
You can use the ESN checker on Swappa to see for yourself if it's really blacklisted (make sure to check the "Blacklist Check" box).

Blacklisting usually happens for two reasons- a device is reported stolen, or there are outstanding payments due on the account associated with it. Both seem unlikely if you are the original and only owner to date.

so let me understand. your s8 was activated thru Verizon is now paid off. you wanted to switch carriers and they told your phone was reported stolen so they could not activate it?

i would go back to verizon to get this straighten out, before you sell it.
Yes the 1st phone was actually replaced under warranty and the 2nd was given to me by Verizon. I made all payments

You should try to talk to a different staff person or go to a different Verizon shop. If this phone is valid it shouldn't be blacklisted so either they've mistakenly used an incorrect IMEI or there's another problem with Verizon's records. In any case if you get pass off this phone in it's current state you could be held liable for its blacklisted status.

Yes, remove the SIM, remove the SD card.

Also remove your Google account from it and then do a factory reset. The order of those is important: if you reset it while the account is still active you need the Google login to use it again, which makes it useless to any buyer. I'd just power it up after a reset and make sure it doesn't ask for this: if it boots up and then starts the "new phone" setup then you can just turn it off, your work is done.
