I haven't had much to bitch about so far regarding the new 2.1 update. Just some small minor things like the rest of us. HOWEVER... why in the flying f*ck is text input using the landscape mode on 2.1 noticeably laggier than in 1.5?!?!?!

WTF SPRINT/HTC!?!?!

Please tell me the rest of you have noticed this? I know we all have our preferences regarding text input using portrait mode or landscape mode; and mine was landscape mode. But now, after upgrading to a supposedly more "reliable, stable, and CDMA-based OS" ... landscape texting has significant lag. It is so annoying.

I always type in landscape, even typing on this website is now quick. With 1.5 it was horrificly slow. Maybe you should hard reset, and reload the ROM. I know what it might be. Remove your Facebook for HTC Sense. That will drag your phone down on just about everything. My dialer was laggy with that on.

haptics and sound is off. I don't see how FB for Sense could effect the landscape typing mode. That makes no "sense". Portrait is fine, but landscape is a ****ing mess. I'm talking about the Landscape text input, not the dialer. The dialer is just as laggy as it was on 1.5, no difference there.

Dude, I'm just telling you the steps I took to get rid of the lag I had on my phone. I had lag on my dialer, and just overall. I removed the Facebook account, got rid of the HTC widgets, and everything (especially the landscape keyboard) is now fast as h#ll. If you don't want my advice, then don't take it.

LOL, don't get so offended. I'll try your settings and get back with you - lets keep peace

Lol. No offense taken. But since making those changes, this is the fastest smartphone I have had. My problem with 2.1 is the conference call issue. Where when you are in a menu tree the phone will do a conference call. And there is a problem with Exchange calendar and daylight savings time.

I removed the HTC Facebook app and I've stopped using HTC Sense. I've switched to Launcher Pro beta and I still get lag when typing in landscape. I've also tried to use Nexus Launcher and I've got the same result. So its not the type of home screen used...its something with the keyboard in landscape.

Do other android phones get the same lag?

Wait a minute, I wonder if its an app you have installed? Since I don't have the issue, it would have to be something different from your phone, and mine.

Wow! Just noticed there are three of you on here with the same problem. It must be something common to you three, that I don't have. Most likely an app you guys have, that I don't. You might want to all check your running apps, and see what you have in common. Then compare to mine.
The other option is to hard reset, reload rom, hard reset. Then do not login Facebook for htc sense. Don't use the mail, and message widgets. Turn off haptic, and sound for the keyboard. Don't install any apps. See how the keyboard in landscape runs then. If it still sux, then take the phone to Sprint. If it types quickly, then add just one app at a time, check keyboard. Add another. If, and when the keyboard starts lagging again, it will be the last app you installed. Then you will know what the cause is. Yes, it is a lot of work, but will be well worth it in the end...

Man, it sucks to run into deal breaking problems less than a week into the release of 2.1. I hope you guys get it sorted out.

I know it has been said, but I find swype to be an excellent alternative to the stock keyboard. If you can get past the initial figuring out period, it works really well.

Anyway, hope you all can find a solution to such an annoying problem! Good Luck....

here are all of the aftermarket apps that I have installed:

AK Notepad
backgrounds
barcode scanner
baseball scores
battery indicator pro
beautiful widgets
chachacha droid
cherry rplayer
discover mobile
facebook
food finder
google goggles
history eraser
live scores
mabilo ringtones
google maps
movies
opera mini
pandora
phandroid news
places by google
spare parts
the weather channel
tigers news
tip calc
uninstaller
urban dictionary
urban spoon
YSA today
volume control
where
wifinder
yahoo answers droid
yellowbook
yelp

The problem is, a lot of these are extremely popular apps, which many other users probably have, so it will make it almost impossible to know if it is a faulty app, because we will all have so many in common.

No kidding, but I don't have hardly any of those.
Google maps
phandroid
the weather channel
pandora
Are the ones we have in common.
I did have Mabilo, but it slowed down the phone. It has a constantly running service, so I removed it. I also stop the Sprint TV service everytime I restart the phone.
But, yeah, I don't have many apps on mine. LOL. Guess the other option is about the only way....:(

I have the same problem when typing in landscape in text messaging. Keyboard is barely usable. I think its the app, not the keyboard. The keyboard seems to work faster in other applications. I don't have hardly any after market apps installed. I've tried some other keyboards and they are slow too.

Yea, I have noticed that it is faster in some apps than other...but it still lags over all...

Also with fresh 2.1.2 there is the XDA keyboard included...it lags in that as well. The funny thing is the XDA keyboard has a swipe down gesture that will hide they keyboard....sometimes I cant even swipe down properly because of the lag. So instead of hiding the keyboard it types a few letters in...very frustrating.
