Help NFC chip no longer giving status

I use the NFC chip to read a blood sugar sensor for my diabetes. For the past month there was always a message in the notification area saying it was ready to use. For some unknown reason, the message is no longer there, even though the chip is still working normally. Does anyone have any ideas what could have happened and how to get that back ? I checked, under notifications, the app that uses the chip and all the settings are turned on. I restarted my phone and cleared the phones cache under settings and shutting the phone off but still no status. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Thanks in advance.

Yeh, if your LG was updated to Pie, could be this NFC blood sugar sensor app you're using needs to be updated? Probably worth you contacting their customer support about it.

FWIW my Huawei was updated to Pie back January, no problem with NFC. Although the only thing I use that requires NFC is the Beijing Subway occasionally.

I think it's the Pie update.

I have the same issue on my Note 8 when that updated to Pie. Now I am having the same issue as you for NFC icon in the notification bar not appearing.

It was working after the Pie update and the NFC icon is still showing. However, I did recently get a security update about the same time as my problem started. That could be the culprit. Thanks for your help. If you hadn't said what you did, I never would have thought of the update. :thumbsupdroid:

Thanks. You're probably right. Unfortunately, the apps support is horrible. They don't answer emails and by phone there is a 45 minute wait on hold.

My guess is that Pie has some type of "priority" over which notifications appear.

I just turned on my ad blocker and it stayed in the notification bar and "replaced" the NFC icon which was moved off but my NFC is still on.

I have You mail and my ad blocker icons that stay on all the time. They seem to have "priority".

Again, that is my phone(s) and my best guess.

Thanks for the feedback.
I agree that there is a priority that determines which icons appear in the Notification bar. And there is a priority to the order that the notifications appear. But I don't think that after a certain number of notices, the rest are dropped. Right now I have 9 notices from various apps that are running. The app that uses the NFC chip is running in the background, but no notice

I got tired of LG not knowing about the NFC chip and the Freestyle people not replying to my emails. I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it. I lost all the information stored in the app, but I got the status of the chip back. Thanks to everyone that helped.

Does the app not provide a way to backup your data? Also as the Freestyle support apparently sucks, and their app maybe buggy. Are there any alternatives?

There is no backup on the app. It is the first release and if their programmers are the same as their support, it isn't surprising. I can use their meter to read the sensor and manually record the numbers in a Diabetes app, which I did before they released the Android app a few weeks ago. I also use that as my own backup. It's just that their app has better graphic displays and better ways of displaying the info.

You may try to clear all the app datas and after that to reinstall the app.
I appreciate the suggestion but this post was from last year. You might want to check the dates to save yourself from answering very old post. I'm just trying to help since you're classified as a lurker in this group. (That means you haven't participated much in the past) We can always use another person that's willing to help, so please don't be discouraged. I'm not trying to embarrass you. We've all made mistakes, I know I still do.
BTW: it was the Freestyle app causing the problem. Once I installed an update, the problem was gone.
