Hi guys I am new here, have searched but cannot seem to find the help I am after.
I will be getting my HTC Hero on Orange contract tomorrow, I am not a big phone user but needed a big screen phone due to eyesight issues, I was wondering if I can give my wife the Orange contract sim and unlock the Hero then use an O2 pay as you go sim in it?

Just keep in mind that 500MB (O2's idea of unlimited) is pretty easy to go through in one month just web browsing.

I'd like to disagree with that.

500MB usage on a mobile device depending on your use is more than enough. If you're just surfing, the chances are you will not go over that limit.

Back to the question: you can indeed unlock the HTC Hero for O2 and it should work fine. :D

Each to his own. I can, and have, surpassed O2 PAYG 500MB limit just using maps, twitter, Guardian and web browsing on the way to work. If you do, you'll get a text warning you not to go over the limit (which =, on a device like Android, you may recieve in the middle of the night) and a subsequent one saying you've gone over your limit and will now be charged GBP 3.00 MB from then on.

In other words, be warned: all your credit can be eaten unless you watch your usage.

I spent ages looking through the T&Cs on the O2 site, and could find no mention of a limit except for "subject to excessive use policy" - but no luck finding written details on that policy.

In the end, I gave up and called my local store. The rep I spoke to said that for the O2 Text & Web PAYG sim, the excessive use policy kicks in 3Gb.
