Samsung Galaxy Note 10 doesn't have a headphone jack?

So Samsung finally joins the rest of the world and removes the headphone jack on the Note 10. Was wondering when the 3.5mm jack would finally die.

Apparently they are making noise canceling headphones specifically for the Note 10 though.

Is this a deal breaker, or was it inevitable?

I haven't used a headphone jack on my S8+ and I don't remember using it on my S7. Bluetooth only here. I hate being wired in and most of the top end buds are wireless. I think it's the way of the future and I doubt seriously if it will be a deal breaker for many. It's certainly not a deal breaker for me. I'm still excited.

I just saw it tonight but I don't know when it was created. I'm hoping the release date is like tomorrow. :) I know it has to be happening soon. There are too many leaks out there... that's a good indication it's about to happen. :)
well i just saw an article saying that it will go on sale in south korea on around aug. 23rd so my guess will be early sept.

That will kill me :) I was hoping sometime this month. I don't want to be the first guy on the block to get one. I need it out in the wild and tested before I'm buying. I'm solid now and don't have to make a move... but I'm anxious. The sooner it's released decreases my waiting time.

The S10 series still have them. Though this bodes poorly for the S11, unless Note 10 sales disappoint Samsung.

Of course if you are an audiophile just having a headphone jack isn't enough unless there are a decent DAC and amp behind it. But the only people who benefit from its removal are the manufacturers: it saves them some money, but brings no benefit to the user.

(BTW if the regular Note 10 really does have no SD slot I hope people will shun it - that's the only message they understand).

My biggest gripe about the headphone jack is that on long flights if my noise cancelling headphones battery dies I can still use them with an aux cord. Will there be a dongle available?

Well on long haul flights, like 12 hours, I'm plugged into the entertainment system, and not using my phone.

I like to load up on podcasts on my phone in case the entertainment is bad or goes off the air. Sometimes when you are over the water you are limited to content stored on the plane and lose live TV. Often you get the same 4 or 5 movies on the return flight you got on the way out.

I've never seen live TV on planes yet, well not on flights like Moscow to Beijing, or Bangkok to London, and nor on domestic flights in China. But Airlines like Aeroflot, Air China and China Southern do offer a good selection of movies and TV shows on their long haul planes.

Jetblue has a partnership with DirectTV, but it only works when over the continental US. Probably a dumb licensing thing.

I tested a LeEco Le Max phone that had no headphone jack, but did have an adapter for the USB-C port, so I guess there is hope. There are these from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Headphone-Adapter-Kimwood-Compatible-Devices/dp/B07MJFTLZZ/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?gclid=CjwKCAjw7anqBRALEiwAgvGgm_UHMuYsrBuzHtYVZDqdW6mb5rtMX1malYZeU_QJtP7qiUkUOxfH7xoCsHMQAvD_BwE&hvadid=233530374847&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=1018356&hvnetw=g&hvpos=1t1&hvqmt=e&hvrand=8271692266407433553&hvtargid=aud-646675773986:kwd-275376859878&hydadcr=18887_10145554&keywords=usb+c+aux+adapter&qid=1565196350&s=gateway&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzR0NGV1VDR1k3TUZEJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMDA2MTY3T01PTlI0MUFJRDZOJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA1OTU0NzhSWTQ4NlVTV0pPVEgmd2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGYmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl) but YMMV.

I was never a big podcast person.

Allegedly there will be a dongle (of course if they've stuck to the USB-C digital audio standard you can use any other manufacturer's dongle that is based on the same standard).
Of course if you have a dongle in the USB port you can't charge the phone, so don't run it flat at the same time as your headphones.

There are one of two jackless phones that don't support digital audio out. These have a DAC inside and use a "passive" dongle to connect to the headphones. Such a dongle will be no use on a phone which uses digital audio output. Personally I suspect Samsung will go the digital route, the question is whether they will implement the standard properly or do something priorietary so that only their kit works properly with it? It's obvious which of those is better for the customer, so I hope they don't do anything self-serving and stupid there (because it would be short-sighted and self-defeating as well). So far I don't think anyone has, so I expect we'll be OK, but if any android manufacturer would it would be Samsung.

On a plane? I suppose, if you brought the charging pad and your seat has a USB socket.

I do see a lot if Delta planes having a straight plug now, so you could get away with that. Not sure I'd want to deal with that though. For long flights I'll use the built in entertainment, so I bring my wired ear buds, otherwise I read my book (kindle).

I have an adapter for my phone, but I'll never use it.
