No SD card slot on the Note 10?

Unless they want to push people to the more expensive/profitable version.

In the S8 series the only difference was size (& battery capacity, which is a corollary of size). With the S9 and S10 they've given more features to the bigger & more expensive devices. This would be extreme, but not inconsistent.

It's been rumored that Samsung will remove the micro SD card slot from the Note 10 after having expandable storage on previous Note models. However some sites suggest it might still be an option on the Note 10 Plus.

If these rumors are correct it's odd they'd remove it from one version and keep it on the other.

I actually didn't realize they would have a Note 10 Plus. ANy details on that? What would be different? Surely it couldn't be bigger right?

I'm ok with no headphone jack, but they are killing me with no SD card.

Interestingly although the phone sites are insisting that only the Note 10+ has microSD there is absolutely no suggestion of that on the Samsung UK site: it describes microSD without any indication that not all models have it. Of course it wouldn't be the first time a manufacturer's site has contained an error on launch day, but it's an unfortunate omission if the tech blogs are correct.

Mind you, 256GB base storage is probably sufficient for most people ;)

It all depends on how much elbow room the OS wants. Personally, I can get by with 128G of removable storage and have plenty of room. So if the device only wants half of 256G I'm good without removable storage. I've never owned a phone without expandable storage. The thought of it doesn't set well. I guess I could manage if the space is sufficient. I'd rather have my trusty SD to use.

i kind of gotten used not having an sd card in the note 5. it did not bother me. i think i got the 128g internal storage at the time and with google photos i had no worries about my photos and i did not come close to running out of room.......just saying. plus sd cards can fail or get corrupted.

i'm definitely getting the note 10+ not because of the sd card, but because i like the extra stuff they added compared to the note 10.

I'm not sure that it's not more accurate to think of it as the stuff they took from the Note 10 (SD slot, lower res display) rather than added to the Note 10+, given that these are things that the previous Notes had.

To me this smells of a cynical attempt to drive people to the more expensive handset, or if they won't take that step increase margins on the base model. But that's capitalism.

They also confirmed no headphone jack but some carriers may include a USB-C earplug set.

Does anyone make over the ear USB-C headphones?
Not many, if any, despite the predictions the "new is better" gang made a few years ago. This recent if opinionated article includes one pair of on-ear phones, no over-ear.

Remember that for the same quality USB-C headphones will cost more because you need a DAC & amp in the headphones. A plus of that is that if anyone ever makes a high quality set they should deliver the same quality whatever phone you use them with (rather than the quality depending on the DAC/amp the phone making included, which is often not a priority for them). The minus is that so far nobody seems to be making a high quality set: the audiophile gang are sticking with 3.5mm jacks, and others are going bluetooth.

I have a few dongles for my Pixel 2, plus a Dragonfly Red for more critical listening (and when I don't expect calls, since it's a one-way device).

yeah you are right......capitalism at its worse

ir blaster???????

they got rid of that a long time ago. i do miss it though.

My Huawei Mate 10 that I bought last year has an IR blaster. Very useful it is too, for controlling hotel TVs, and air conditioning, and other things. But the Note 10's lack of SD card and headphone jack is a definite deal breaker for me.

256gb would make this a non-issue for me. I went 128 on my Pixel and it's more than enough. I never used a bigger SD card than that anyway.

Apple users have been using iPhones with no sd slot for years and iphone still sell by the truckload. iPhone removed the 3.5mm port and the phone still sold in truck loads. People will complain of no sd slot and no headphone port on the galaxy but will still buy it. Samsung know what they are doing.

The random sampling of people who post on this thread/site are more of an enthusiast over the regular common folk, so its natural to see many more here moan and complain about the lack of these options.

I'm using a phone with neither SD slot nor headphone jack. However the latter is still a pain, and retaining the jack is one reason why the top candidate in my "if I break my phone tomorrow what would replace it" list is currently a Samsung (S10e to be precise - I don't want a large phone). If they remove that then there's much less reason to choose them in future, as they no longer stand out.

SD bothers me less (I'm OK with my 128GB internal), but it's still an option that's been removed, for no benefit whatsoever to the user.

What gets me is the Note 10+ does have SD, but the Note 10 does not. It's not like it takes up any room or costs much more to manufacture a phone with an SD slot.

But then AF had the same no SD "the sky is falling" threads with S6 and Note5. And Samsung subsequently put things right. Yeh "Samsung knows what they're doing".

i agree but i will say this, the note 10 is much smaller then the note 10+ and i can see how having an sd card slot would make the phone bigger. it does feel more comfortable in hand with the smaller note 10 compared to the note 10+. but i like a large screen so i went with the note 10+.

I will still select phones on the presence of headphone sockets/microsd slots.I just don't like the premise that my all-singing, all-dancing phone is missing features. The phone might last me 3+ years, during which there will be times where a conventional set of headphones is all I have to hand. Likewise, the phone may come with plenty of storage for now, but if it isn't expandable I better be pretty confident I won't need more in the years to come.
