Help Note 9 Won't update?

I have a note 9 that will not update. I have tried to get Samsung support, but the folks that are supposed to help (latin support) keeps passing me on to the US. The device I have is supposed to be supported in the latin area. I was chatting with them once now suddenly no one is available for support... Right now the device shows I have android 8.0.1 and a security update from july 1 2018. What are my options? besides samsung that is.

Need more info? Let me know!

That definitely should have received OTA updates. Has the phone been rooted and modified at all? Check the Knox and Warranty Void status, is it showing 0x0 or 0x1. Also is the firmware status showing Official or Custom?
Firmware shows Official I'm not sure how to check the others? Also, no root, no custom roms, phone has been untouched.

That should receive OTA updates. The Knox status etc, should be found under Settings, about device. Is it a carrier variant phone and are you with the original carrier? Suggest you post the full model number. Although I have a Vodafone UK variant Galaxy S7, and it has received OTA updates without Vodafone service.

Yeah as far as I know it's an unlocked device, no original carrier. I use straight talk sim in it on ATT towers. Model is SM-N9600.I don't see any warranty void and as far as knox goes it just shows version etc.

Droid version shows n9600ZHU1ARG6

Quick edit, Smart Switch even says the device is up to date.

Those numbers checkout as a Latin America/South America variant. You're in the US with Straight Talk. Maybe Samsung is now restricting updates by region? Do you have a VPN you could try, that would give you an IP address in a Latin American country?

I have an S7 that came from Vodafone in the UK, and it has been receiving OTA updates even though I'm actually in China.

I had an international s7 Edge before this and got updates for it no issues. Using the same sim card in this phone. I believe it was taiwan region. I will try the VPN thing if here are any freebie recommendations, otherwise I don't have one.

No luck on a VPN yet (first one didn't have South America options) Next VPN lol! Also, (off topic) I am so confused about my support history here. I DO NOT recall owning a note 2? Like wtf? But Apparently my Niece confirmed it lol

So its a regional thing and not the phones fault it seems. Getting a vpn may be what you need.

How long have you had the phone? Where did you purchase it from? Was it a refurbished model? What carrier (i didnt immediately see it in this discussion here)? Have you EVER in the phones life received an OTA??

Under the tab that shows you when the phone was last updated, what dies it state??and when you press “update” what does it state?

And still can't contact Samsung

Think problem is, Samsung US won't help you, because it's not a US version phone, and Samsung in Latin America won't help, because you're in the US.

I know this situation, I have a UK version S7, I know Samsung China won't touch it, and I'm not in the UK. But then this phone was given to me, and it's not my main device, and I'm sure it's out of support now anyway, as of this year.

That's why I advise to anyone, be aware of buying grey market Samsungs

S7 and S7 Edge seems to receive OTA updates no problems anywhere.

What I don't get is my s7 Edge updates just fine, but it's from Taiwan I think. it's a G935F. Ugh.... I hate samsung. Why sell the device in the US that can't be supported here...

You bought the SM-N9600 Latin American variant Note 9 new in the US? That makes it a grey import, and presumably it didn't come from an official Samsung outlet?

Samsung does impose regional activation restrictions on their phones, in that it must be first activated with a local SIM, and a call made from the country or region it was intended for.

I tried nord vpn. No luck. It was not a refurb that I am aware of and I don't know original carrier, not even sure how to check that. My niece bought it from someone and I bought it from her. I currently use straight talk. And looking at it. It has never been updated. There is no last update.

I have had the phone a month.
I just looked at Nord VPN, and it has servers in Chile, Argentina, Brazil and Costa Rica. But that was on my PC, though....

Amazon, sold by Samsung came in the box sealed (both my s7 edge when I got it) But what I am being told is that Android 9 isn't released yet for my phone (according to samsung support)

Yeah that's fine if you have the paid version. Free trial version does not.
