I have tried everything to update from emui 8.0 to 9.0 but every time it says I have the latest update. I tried using the Firmware Finder but I cant find how to change the DNS settings in my router's settings. Can someone please help. Thanks in advance.

Huh? You shouldn't need to do anything like that to use Huawei Firmware Finder.

Are you in the country or region that your Mate 9 variant was intended for? Is it a carrier version device? Suggest you post the full model number, where you are, and your carrier as well.

I'm not sure 100% but Huawei might geo-restrict OTA updates. I've got a Mate 10, I'd been in the UK for a few weeks, but within a few hours of arriving back home in China it showed an OTA update to EMUI 9.1. Maybe just coincidence, but I'm not sure.

That's why I suggest you post the full model number, where you are, and your carrier as well.

I'm not sure if this is what yor are asking for when you say full model number but it says my current version is MHA-L29 8.0.0.377. I think the carrier is T-Mobile but I'm not sure since I use Walmart Family Mobile.

Yeh, that's the international variant, so it should be receiving updates no problem in the US. Where did you buy the phone, was it from Family Mobile and/or Walmart?

AFAIK the Mate 9 should be on EMUI 9.1, Android 9 Pie now. I'll message a friend in the UK later today, because he's got the same international variant Mate 9, MHA-L29. He'll tell me what EMUI version is on his.

I bought it used from craigslist. I had to do some repairs to it (I had to replace the logic board) but after I did the repairs I was able to update it to EMUI 8.0 with no problems but now every time I try updating it says its current.

On the rear of your Mate 9, at the bottom, is there "MHA-L00" along with some Chinese wording? If it is, it's actual the Chinese Mate 9 variant that's been unofficially re-flashed with international "MHA-L29" EMUI firmware. I'm pretty sure that won't receive any updates, because it's an unauthorised modification..

The MHA-L00 variant is only intended to be sold and used in China, and I believe there's some unofficial vendors on Ebay, Amazon, and maybe Craigslist as well, re-flashing and selling them as grey imports.

Here is a pic of the sticker on the bottom.

That sticker looks legit as an international variant Mate 9, and should have received EMUI 9 by now. Because China variants have the company name in Chinese, and no FCC ID.

When you say you had to repair and replace the logic board, where did the replacement logic board actually come from? Perhaps Huawei are determining it as unauthorised modifications, and thus no updates are pushed out for it? And what you can do about that, I don't know.

I don't understand why no one out there (not even Huawei) in all these years has said loud and clear that the Mate 9 in the USA has not, and will likely never have, an official update to EMUi 9!

The phone has been updated everywhere else, so clearly it is a US-only issue, and definitely not a technical one. It is likely the result of either company retaliation to US prohibitions, or the provider's loss of interest, or the intervention of some US governmental agency. I too tried everything I could to get an OTA, without success but, even more worrisome, I have not seen a single post from anyone able to do that in the States! The only alternative we have is to root the phone and install something like Lineage OS. I loved this phone, but I am tired to wait for an update that will never happen. Sorry everyone!

If you want to alter your router's default DNS service, that's not a phone setting and it's completely irrelevant which version of your phone is currently running. You need to log into your router's setup/settings page and make your changes there.
That's also going to be dependent on your router.
-- If you have an ISP-supplied modem/router unit, there's a good chance the DNS options are locked and cannot be altered by the user (ISP's collect user traffic for marketing purposes and when you have to use your ISP's DNS servers, that's one of several they use).
-- If you have your own router, you need to access the router's settings, not your phone.
-- If you do own your own router, altering the router's DNS will affect all the devices connected to it. If you're using your ISP's modem/router, you can bypass your ISP's DNS by changing the DNS on all your devices, as this will take precedence. You might want to change your phone's DNS anyway as there will undoubtedly be times where you're using online access elsewhere besides your home WiFi. Or conversely, use a valid VPN service instead.
