big problem with internet connection

Hi all.
I have a big problem with my internet connection when I am using Wifi at my home.
The thing is that near my home there are some restaurants that have conections that appears to be free but aren't free.
The problem is that even when I click on my home network to connect it connects fine but 5 minutes later Android decides that it wants to connect to the open networks nearby that are not really open and interupts my connection.
I trried installing Wifi MAnager but that didn't help.
Do anyone know of an app or patch that will make my mobile connect to the network that I WANT TO CONNECT TO and not forcing me to connect to other networks that aren't mine.
It's a. shame the computer world these days I mean I had a Windows xp Computer that would let me choose MY NETWORK and it STAYED CONNECTED TO MY NETWORK.
And then there is this peace of crap of os that is of 2016 that won't connect to my Wifi because it's so stupidly made that it decides where to connect.
I have to find a way to stop android from searching and connecting to a network AFTER I SELECT MY HOME NETWORK SO IT WILL STAY CONNECTED TO MY NETWORK.
I tried that in Wifi manager but it doesn't stop android from searching and connecting to other networks even when I turn Auto Search off in Wifi manager and Android settings don't even have that option.
Please help me because it is a very expensive high end phone and if I don't find a solution for this I might sell everyrhing and stop using computers and phones altogether.
I am so fed up of this modern computer world that is more terrible then the 90's

I believe there's a setting in your Wi-Fi called smart wifi that you have to shut off. I don't have your phone so I'm going off previous forum posts

I have read about something like this before on AF. Is it a Sprint version phone you've got there, and they apparently have something called Connections Optimizer, that could be the culprit?

I've never had this problem myself, not with any device.

Yeh it was, you connected your 56k modem to the phone line, installed your AOL CD, you input your credit card details, and that was it.

Same here. I'm on my 7th Android device and have yet to see any such behavior.

When connected to the restaurants WiFi - tap on their hotspot name in WiFi settings, then tap forget. After doing that (on my phone at least) it wont connect until you tell it to.

I keep it at home to use it as a computer because it's so power full that it's suposed to be for that.
It's got 8 cores and 32 gb storage and it's a shame that I can't use it for Internet.
All I need to do is disable the search feature for it not to search for networks after I AM connected but surprisingly There is no way of doing that in Android.
I googled and I found that I needed to install Wifi Manager but that didn't help since the app doesn't really take over the Android Wifi manager thing.
I need to find a way to DISABLE the search so I can use this phone

That doesn't sounds like normal behaviour for any phone that I've had. And I've only ever read about it been reported a few times on AF, with Sprint version devices in the US with this Connections Optimizer thing that some Sprint phones have. Where their WiFi is promiscuous and automatically connects to any whatever open WiFi, even if it doesn't have net access, and is definately undesirable behaviour.

What phone have you actually got there, make, model, and variant?

I understand your frustration, @John Galli, but let me assure you that what you're describing is definitely not normal Android behavior, nor has it ever been.

Please provide us with the info @mikedt has requested.

Is there any possibility that something you installed could be responsible for this? Something that involves constant background scanning of available networks?

Did this issue always exist, or did it suddenly start at some point?

Those are WiFi hotspots run by AT&T and Passpoint, and if enabled the phone should only be automatically connecting to them and nothing else.

I've used a similar thing in the UK with The Cloud public WiFi, which is often found in pubs, hotels, railway stations, etc, but for that I had to install their(The Cloud) app. No phones I've had, have had automatically connect to partner WiFi hotspots built in. As I'm not currently in the UK, I've removed their app.

Note that I said to look for entries similar to those. Didn't mean to imply everyone had AT&T (I don't any more, but the phone thinks I do), and I don't even know who/what Passpoint is!

Nope, me either. The OP's problem is new to me. I'm really leaning toward some app, maybe a rogue app, being responsible.

As I'm not currently in the UK, I've removed their app.

I'm stuck with AT&T apps! They can only be disabled, not uninstalled.

When I go into the Wifi setting on Android (clicking adjustments or Settings menu and then click on wifi) if I click on my home network it connects fine.
But on the top it keeps saying searching every 5 seconds and the circle appears and if it detects an open connection that has a strong enough signal to connect to it connects to it.
On Wifi Manager it says that my home network is between 64 and 67 percent.
But when the open networks signal shows up more then 25 percent the phone always connects to it.
It depends on the weather.
Sometimes the signal stays at like 12 percent and it won't affect me and I can use the phone just fine.
But on most days the signal gets in between 25 and 34 percent and then the phone insists it wants to connect to their signal and on those days I cannot use the phone.
I've been dealing with this issue for 1 year already and I even had to change my routher a month ago because the other one died.
I have had this issue with both routers.
I am running version 6.0 and for this version of Android this behavior is normal.
But what I think is that there should be a way like an app or something that can turn this off.

Well I can tell you for sure, it's absolutely NOT normal behaviour for Android 6.0, and I've had several devices with that version on them. If it was, surely there would be a lot of people howling about it. It's not normal behaviour for any Android version. except for something that a particular manufacturer or carrier may have done, e.g. Sprint.

Anyway, as I still don't know what device you've actually got there, despite several requests for this info. I can't be of any more help. I'll leave you to it...and have a nice day.

As Mike said, we need to know the model of your phone. It's probably something unique to your phone since most people don't have this issue.

I'd suggest that you go back through this thread and respond to the questions we've asked you. We WANT to help you, but you're tying our hands by not providing sufficient information.

What you guys are asking to do is derailing the threat to defend android.
Because this issue is definitly a SOFTWARE ISSUE and not hardware.
I bought this phone secondhand about 1 year ago.
I REFORMATTED it to start fresh.
I have nothing installed exept the basic Android things.
And this is not the only phone that have this problems.
Other people who come in with their Android phones also have this.
The only way to not have this issue is to connect with a Laptop and that's because windows does not connect automatically like Android does.
A teenager said something about putting an app like a terminal in Linux on the phone.
But I am not sure if Android can work with that.
If it does then maybe I can get a command to turn off autoconnect but I don't think android even supports this.
Because this is not the only issue I have with Android I have a lot of other issues with this Os and all because of the lack of options to configure things.
A lot of things are forced upon a user to accept it the way it is and not letting you costumice things according to the users needs.
And one of them is this.
I am not gonna give details about my hardware because I know it will only derail the threat.
I have been working with computers a long time and I started since 1994 on a Gateway 2000 with a 75 mhz pentium proccesor.
I know a lot so I know this is a SOFTWARE PROBLEM.
If there is no way of solving this then I guess I should quit android or quit computers alltogether because Android is the WORST OS I HAVE EVER SEEN IN THE HISTORY OF COMPUTERS.
And I litterly cannot understand how it got so widely accepted being even worse then Windows 95 or even Windows 3.1

It's a shame that window$ phones failed so miserably, @John Galli, because I think they'd be right up your alley. They'd crash and BSOD all over the place, just like your beloved window$.

You're saying Android isn't customizable when, in fact--just like its big brother on PCs and supercomputers, Linux--it's the most customizable mobile OS.

You've failed to provide answers to questions we've asked, answers that may help us zero in on your highly unusual problem--a problem you claim many other Android users have, yet, strangely, in all the years this forum has existed, none of us can recall floods of posts reporting this issue. Forget floods--not even a trickle.

When (if?) you decide to answer our questions, we'll try to help. Or perhaps you'd do better switching to the very locked-down, non-customizable, highly curated iOS...

Well this is how the computer world is these days.
I mean everybody is Biased on their Os they use and defend it to dead.
I am not defending anything I am just saying that in all the years I have been with computers everything was crap but the worst I have ever seen is Android.
I started with Windows 95 that sure had it's problems back then but that was still understandable when we were in the beginning of the Computer era.
On 1998 my family have had enough of the problems with Windows and bought a Bondy Blue I MAC.
i loved this machine and kept buying all apple products till 2008.
In 2008 Apple became way to greedy for money and they decide they are gonna switch to Intel Processor and dropped support for all Power pc users.
For me that just bought a 3000 dollars G5 and had all expansive software on it like Cubase vst and some Adobe products this was a huge hit that I could't take.
So I swiched to Windows xp that was stable and at least better then all the Windows products I know.
Then I bought a Dell Xps with windows 7 and it was a mess.
Crashes everywhere and hard disk throughput was SUPER SLOW.
So I decided to swich to Windows embedded pos ready 2009 and that waa basically Windows xp but with new drivers to work with my new computer and the computer ran fine and finally got WAY FASTER then it's own Os it came with.
But then tragedy struck my home and I lost my home and everything in it including my super beloved computer that worked way better then every one elses.
Since I came to live with family who had terrible kids I cannot put a computer here without it getting destroyed or stolen.
So I am forced to switch to this phone and it's giving me a headache righr now.
I mean look at how things are going.
With all this talk I am still not able to resolve this problem.
A problem that noNE OF MY OLD DEVICES HAVE HAD EVER.
So I don't understand how they can up with such a crappy os after ALL THESE YEARS OF COMPUTING.
This os sure is worse then even Windows 95 and I don't understand how some people still can use it.
If I had an option I'd go back to Windows xp or Linux mint

The fact that you think Android is worse than window$ 95, leads me to believe that you are having issues virtually no one else has.

In my world, Android runs flawlessly on three devices (Moto Z² Force Edition, Moto X 2nd Generation, Kindle Fire HD 8.9" that I rooted and made look/act like any other true Android device). They're beautiful, I've highly customized them, and I use them all day, every day with absolutely no problems.

Based on my experience, it's actually impossible for me to relate to your frustration, and your negative opinion of Android. And judging by other replies, I don't think I'm alone.

I'm truly sorry that tragedy struck you and you've had to redo your life--in an unsatisfactory manner. I hope things improve for you.

If you want to answer the questions you've been asked, that may help us solve the very, very unusual problem you started this thread about. After that, if you want to share other specific problems, we'll be happy to help figure those out, too.

Well there is a long list of problems I have with Android.
Besides this I also have other issues.
Like in Windows you can turn OFF auto update.
In Android you can't.
I am forced to having slowdowns when using the internet to downloads updates of Google apps I DON't even use.
Second there are apps like Google play for example that won't work AT ALL without downloading a HUGE UPDATE OF MORE THEN 1 gb that I never get to do due to this Internet Problems.
All apps force you to create an account and register wich is a total pain because I can't get Google play to work.
And everything is unstable and crashes a lot.
On windows if your computer freezes you can just restart.
On Android you can't because unlike windows Android won't shut down it just sort of hibernates and when you have a crashed app that won't close and you restart it just brings you back to the same locked up app after a restart and then you have to pray to god that the locked app unfreezes by itself so you don't need to reformat the whole phone just for a small crash.
There is no way to uninstal Google apps you don't use even if their causing you trouble and you don't use them.
There is no way to configure the phone to NOT entering sleep mode after not touching it for a while even while it's plugged in and this is a big problem when downloading files off the internet.
The downloader also is a mess.
Most of the time it crashes while downloading and you just get an error message saying error while downloading.
The paste app keeps pasting things i don't care about and keeps showing it on the screen and it's frustrating.
The touchscreen is a mess.
The person who came with the idea that smartphones should work on a touch screen must be shot dead.
The whole idea is jank because it is a mess to work on a touchscreen and what's even worse is that Android is so stupid that they could't even make a scrollbar on the side of the screen.
Scrolling is a mess you end up touching stuff you don't even want.
And I can go on and on about all the problems this thing has and I don't understand how people got to accept this.
We were better off with Windows 95 and a 75 mhz computer.
I don't understand how people can say that Android is costumizable when in fact it's not.
Windows 95 was more costumizable then this peace of crap.

At least please try to be courteous. AS for 'reformatting the phone, I think you probably mean a Factory Data Reset, which removes your data and any apps you've installed. If you really reformatted the phone, you'd need (at the very leasst) a copy of the Andtoid ROM specific to your phone, and the original recovery, not to mention all the drivers and other binary blobs that a phone needs, in addition to the open source Android software. If you really want our help, nd are not just using this forum to have a rant about your percieved oroblems with Android (Which nobody else ever seems to have experienced), then PLEASE tell us your phone's make and exact model, together with your carrier, as there may be some carrier specific software on the phone that is causing the problem.

It may be that you have a very rare set of circumstances that allow an otherwise latent problem to manifest itself. Remember it is provably impssible to fully test software of the complexity of Android, or indeed any modern operating system.
