Need solution to casting to smart tv

So I am trying to cast or mirror screen my J7 crown to my smart tv. I do not have internet at my home and I know that limits what I can do. I used to use my moble hotspot to connect my smart tv to and I was able to cast threw that but my mobile carrier has shut my hotspot off. I have tried to connect my phone to the tv with a USB and my tv doesn't show anything under the usb setting almost like it cant see it. I made sure usb file transfer was on. So my question is how can I get my phone to stream to my TV so I can watch Netflix or downloaded movies. Any help would be great, thank you.

Well that doesn't sound very nice of them. Have you enquired about it with your carrier? Thing is if you've got no WiFi at all, you can't really screen-cast wirelessly. And I'm pretty sure that the J7 doesn't support any sort of hardware video out.

i use it every single day....but i have wifi so i never had to try it without wifi.

Straightalk does not allow mobile hotspot. So contacting them wouldn't help much I dont think. Also i have tried chromecast and tou have to have internet for it to work. I have been told after the setup and update that it would work without internet but i was not able to get it set up with no internet. So I am at a loss here. Just not sure what to do at this point.

Would you consider switching to a carrier that does?

Kindly note that I know absolutely nothing about doing your actual project, but thought this might help if having a hotspot would allow you to get it done.

My other option I came up with is buying a new phone that supports MHL or one that has a mini hdmi output on it. If anyone can point me in the right direction of a phone that can do one of those and isent insanely expensive that would be great.

The only one I know for sure is what I've got, Huawei Mate 10 with the Matedock 2 adapter, that can output and screen-cast directly via HDMI,

You could try the usb method, get a decent size usb flash drive with media on it, and put in the usb port on your tv, and watch the videos on it

not if you want to stream content like netflix, like that op was looking to do. most devices these days will need the internet, or like suggested phones that have an hdmi out feature. phones like samsung does not have this. i know that htc does and you just need a dongle from mini hdmi to hdmi and you should be able to connect.

I feel your pain. We're on straight talk and used to hotspot to our laptops and Roku. I guess ST got wise to us. Recently both our Moto G6 lost the ability to share the internet.

I can tell you that the Chromecast will not work without a wireless network connection to the internet. So that's not an option.

But I do have a solution for you. Probably. It works for our Moto and believe it works for any modern Android phone.

Look up Clockworkmod tether no root in the play store. I should say up front that it is a $5 app you can use for free for a week or two so you can see if it works for you. It uses USB Debugging and it will download drivers for your phone to your laptop and directs you to download the counterpart software for your computer.

The downside is you have to usb cable your phone to your laptop. It's not wireless. But it does give you full internet with your ST cell phone service. Take that a step further and you cable your laptop to your TV with an hdmi cable and you're able to use your laptop to dial up Netflix or whatever and watch it on your TV. Of course you have three devices and two cables all wired together. It's clumsy, but it works.

I miss our wireless hotspotting.

By the way, my older Motorola RAZR MAXX HD has a dedicated hdmi output and the ability to mirror the cell phone to the TV. Maybe you can find one of those pretty cheap. Mine is in storage, otherwise I'd be trying to utilize that for our situation.

Just wanted to say that I'm very impressed! Why? Because they have a native Linux version of their software!

I have no need for this app myself, but looked at its Play Store page for the hell of it. And I was pleasantly surprised!

Update. I can now eliminate the USB cable from the phone to the laptop, but you'll still need to use an HDMI from the laptop to the tv.

Instead of Clockworkmod Tether, which works great, I just installed PDAnet+ on my Moto G6 with android 8.0 and the corresponding software on my Win10 laptop. This app ($10, free to try and verify it works) successfully, wirelessly, hotspotted my ST phone service to my laptop. Not sure if that helps you but thought I'd pass it along. Sadly, my roku cannot see that wireless network so can't connect to it.

I bought a Screenbeam Mini2 from best 2 weeks ago. It works great. You simply plug it into your USB on your TV and that's it. It cast through Smart View. To what you think hope this helps.
