Fresh Toast 2.1 vs. Fresh 2.1.1

There are several threads in this forum, on the XDA forum.. and some discussion on Flipz website.

Fresh 2.1.1 is completely stable even though it may have some quirks. It is built off of the latest leak from Sprint.

Toast is built off of Fresh 2.1.1. But it has been completely customized to be incredibly fast.

Car analogy.

Go to the used car lot and buy a used car. Been checked out.. run through the diagnostics... etc etc. Fairly reliable.
This is Fresh 2.1.1

Go to craigslist and buy a car that has been customized. Might run real good for you. Might not. Might be real fast. Might crash and burn.
This is Fresh Toast 2.*

I have been running fresh 2.0d for a few weeks. Phone was wiped and then flashed with Fresh Toast 2.1 this morning. It has been running most of the day, and, even with the overclock widget, it has been very laggy.

Just downloaded and flashed Fresh 2.1.1, and the phone is back to its snappy self. Maybe I did something wrong, but I like like Fresh 2.1.1 better.

Did you install OC Widget as it suggests ?

Running Fresh Toast 2.1 with OC widget. Haven't noticed a real speed difference from Fresh 2.0d. I have lost the mobile network connection a few times and had to refresh the connection, but that may be a fault of the antennae. I flashed the latest antennae update (2.42.01.04.27) because the previous update was crap after flashing Fresh Toast 2.1. I'll give it a few days because setting everything up again is a pita. Everything else works though.

I've been running Fresh Toast for a couple days now with no issues. It does seem to get hung up sometimes, but in general it's much faster than any of the other 2.1 ROMs I've tried. The speed difference is especially noticeable in 3d games, which are actually playable now, and in the live wallpapers which now run super-smooth, even though they still don't stick. That being said, some people are having problems running it overclocked, it seems as though there are some variations between processors among our phones, some where just made better than others.

Speaking of live wallpapers, where can I get my hands on that fancy rainbow-looking wallpaper that they keep showing with the EVO. I saw that there is a static version of it in the wallpapers included with Fresh 2.1.1, but I couldn't find a live version of it.
This one? :D

Just went from Fresh Toast 2.1 to Fresh 2.1.1 and really liking it. Fresh Toast was super sweet and super fast but would lag out once and a while. Fresh 2.1.1 seems really solid. Keyboard is smooth (I've never typed so much in this tiny keyboard) and the rom's size is impressive.

If you want to tweak and tweak try out Fresh Toast. If you need solid (simply where I am right now) Fresh is the way to go. Either way.... you win!

If you think you type fast now, try Swype and stop typing. Just go blazing fast by tracing. Search and you will find the latest thread to download the Swype apk.

Thanks for the tip. I've been using Swype for a few hours now and it's quite incredible. I'm a little nervous to spend the time getting used to it knowing they have been disabling the current versions though. It seems like there is some questions as to how they are handling the development.

don't worry about that... if you get used to swsype, then you can instantly use shapewriter. in fact.. download shapewriter from the market. it's free. My wife prefers that over swype.. I prefer swype...but shapewriter is still better than stock

Ah, good to know. Thanks.

After a day of using Swype I know know what the hype is about.. it's amazing!!! Thank you so much for suggesting this. And it's great to know there is an alternative if for some reason Swype becomes unavailable. :)

I'm using Fresh Toast 2.1 right now and I'm loving it. Flashed over from 1.5 last night and I'm stunned by how well it works. I had tried out some of the 2.0 and 2.1 releases from Flipz before, but didn't really feel they were complete enough, and I was really happy with my battery life with 1.5 using the SetCPU widget.

I went through and set everything up last night (using My Backup Pro to recover my apps and all my saved data made it even faster and easier). I was nervous about using Overclock so I tried the SetCPU first. It was all over the place, jumping from 19mHz to 768mHz, so I decided to give Overclock a shot.

After reading through Flipz comments, I toyed around with it a bit and finally got it running ... and I mean running! I tried a couple games that barely worked before. Now they zoom on by and play like REAL games. Everything i've tried is faster, and my phone wakes up more quickly now.

Also, my battery life has bene outstanding today. I'm still at 85% for the day and have had my phone off the charger since. The only thing I've noticed is that my data turns off occassionally (I won't see the Evdo at the top and will have to toggle my mobile widget off then back on, which is something that would happen fairly often with my phone and 1.5 as well). I haven't really done much today, though. Sent 12 texts, received about 20. Haven't spoken on the phone, browsed the web for a bit and checked out the Facebook app. Pretty lite use for me. Usually at this point in the day, I'd be around 80%.

I'm going to give it a few more days of pretty good use to see what it's like under more average conditions.

My first few days I discovered that the mobile connection would just drop sometimes too. So I pushed the power button to bring up the choices for turning off the phone, airplane mode, mobile network on/off, etc. I turned mobile network "off" then back on again to refresh the connection. During this time I was fiddling with the phone a lot by adding and deleting apps I was trying and messing with settings too. After I stopped that and just started to use the phone as usual things stabilized. Now I have run the ROM for many days and have not lost the mobile connection since.

Hmmm, I'll have to try that. I had added a mobile network widget and would click it off/on and it would come back on. I've also noticed that data turns off when my phone sleeps, which is odd to me. I don't get e-mails until I wake up my phone.

Quick response: Just rebooted the phone, let it sleep for a few minutes with Overclocking widget running and sent myself an e-mail and it beeped on my phone instantly. guess it's working now. I'll keep an eye out on it and report if this has fixed it permanently or not.

Just shut the phone off, pulled the battery and restarted. We'll see if this keeps it up. May also start playing with uninstalling Overclocking widget to see if that is the problem.
