Headphone reccomendations?

Hey! First time user here! For black Friday or my birthday, id like to ask my parents for some headphones. I'm not sure which though. I listen to rap a lot, so bass is important. Type c charging would be nice. Good ANC is something of a necessity for me, due to he fact it can get loud on the bus or at school. I'd also like for them to he over ear or in ear, not on ear, as I have glasses. And finally, budget. $250 would probably be the most I would go to, but $200 and below is reasonable. Over or In-ear will get you the Bass with any Headphones. Bose products are known for excellent Bass reproduction.

Personally, I think ANC detracts from enjoying music but that's a topic for another day.

I've been using Bose QC35 for 3 years now, especially when I travel quite frequently, usually on planes and trains. And I'm still very happy with them. Bass is excellent IMO, and treble response is good as well. From what I've experienced, especially when travelling on planes, their noise cancelling is probably one of the best, and is definitely good for noisy buses as well. You can also use them as wired or Bluetooth wireless, and they even include an aircraft audio jack adapter.

Yeh, I've got the original QC35. But I think only real difference between them and the QC35 II is an extra button to activate things like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. But I don't use any voice assistant type things anyway.

Can't really comment about Sennheiser, having never tried them myself, but I believe they are good based on reviews I've read. I bought Bose, because they were available locally(at the Apple Store) and I could try them and other headphones before handing over any money. For me sound quality, with a good base and treble, and noise cancelling were the most important, as well as been able to use the headphones wireless or wired.

Anything with an open back doesn't do noise cancellation. Sennheiser are great when you are in a quiet environment but on a rush hour Bus?

Not only that, but anything open backed will also leaks sound out to those around you. They can be the best thing for listening alone at home, but are a bad choice for travelling (antisocial as well as suffering background noise).

Of course there are closed-back Senns as well if you like their sound.

If noise cancellation is a priority the Sony WH-1000XM3, in my informal testing (airport electronics shops), do a better job than the Bose headphones (who reviews tend to describe as "best in class): both more effective and more natural. I always find a "hollow, dead space" feeling when I try Bose's ANC, whereas the Sony just feels like the world got quieter - your mileage may vary, so if you have the opportunity I'd always recommend testing yourself. If I were in the market for another set of headphone and wanted noise cancellation that's what I'd buy (except that by the time I might need them - i.e. when I might be commuting again - the XM4 will probably be out...).

It may be a prejudice, but I tend to regard SkullCandy as a fashion brand rather than a serious audio contender.

I got the galaxy earbuds gen 1 on sale for 100 bucks and love them in every way. I never thought i would pay 100 bucks for earbuds, but no regrets. Paired with the samsung app on my phone, it's loaded with features. The 2nd gen earbuds are out now and improved as another option.

Have you tried their WF-1000XM3 true wireless earphones? As an "audiophile" authority gotta say I was super impressed with a sound quality. True wireless cookie cutters released last year were all about convenience, pretty looks, and fancy charging cases. Majority were tuned either with bloated bass or veiled mids. I tried WF-1000XM3 about a month ago and those were audiophile quality noise canceling earphones. Also, was impressed with Anker's spin-off Soundcore Liberty 2 Pro TWS.

I haven't, but that's because I can't tolerate in-ear phones of any sort, and I mean "can't tolerate" in the medical sense. A shame because they are more convenient, but I made the decision some years ago (slightly too late - the final ear infection left me with low-level tinnitus) and don't consider it worth the risk of revisiting it.

Always been on my site and head-fi, just focusing on audiophile stuff, though nowadays hard to focus on anything other than... I kind of skipped the whole TWS phase cause market got saturated and it was all about the convenience rather than sound. I do use Shanling MW100 when working out or on a bike, but only cause they are very ergonomic and fit like a custom glove, plus a charging case is very small and supports Qi. But the sound quality is meh.

I was impressed with Sony WF earphones and was pleasantly surprised by customization options of Liberty 2 Pro. Actually, got a chance to attend CanJam NYC show last month, before everything got shut down. Didn't even realize that Anker spun off their audio division into a separate Soundcore brand. Other than that, still "rocking" my old Galaxy S9 and trying to convince my kids that Apple is evil, though my daughter just laughing at me with her iPhone 11 and those airpods handing down her ears

I think I got auto corrected. I meant Ear. I've used on-the-ear Bluetooth headphones but I can't recall any that entirely cover your ear.

There are loads of over-ear BT headphones out there. The Sony and Bose headphones I mentioned in post #14 are all over-ear types (I didn't name the Bose models, but I was referring to both the QC 35 and the 700).
