Can't Change Notification Sound...

Hi, I just purchased the Note10+ about a week and a half ago. I've tried a number of times to get my apps to play the notification sound I select for the app (going into Settings- Apps- select app- Notifications- select the categories), but it keeps playing the default sound. I've tried numerous different ways to set up the sound profile, but I can't get the apps to play what I'm selecting (I'm especially trying to set up a notification sound for Google and Alexa Reminders). I've checked the overall Sound Notification settings (Settings- Sounds and vibration- Notification sounds), the setting for each app, and hard reset my phone twice, all to no avail. I would really appreciate some help getting it straightened out please!

ONE suggestion. Go into the app you like, in settings, then apps, the look inside, down to notification and assign THERE the sound you desire.

Just curious, what sound format are you trying to use for your wanted notification sound?

Hi, I've tried both internal notificaiton sounds (end in .ogg), and Zedge notifications (which I've never had an issue with before). When the notification time comes up, I get only a vibration from the phone- so the notification is "firing", just no pop-up and no sound.

Also, I tried the "Notification Catch App" after I couldn't get sounds to play, and it did work perfectly. It just doesn't have the specific sounds that you can choose for different actions. Since then, I have disabled the app, but it does provide a sound.

I really need to get this back like I had on my Note 8! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

its difficult for people over the internet to help. the phone has a notification section and each app has its own settings. i have zero issue assigning notifications to apps I use, soyou are simply missing something.

so to try to help you, just list up a couple of apps (free) that you're using that you want to change the notification, and i will see if I can help. its really not a big deal to add sounds to android...

Yes, it shouldn't be that complicated! I've never had this issue before with all the Android phones I've had...

Two I'm trying right off the bat are Google reminders and Amazon Alexa reminders. Also my alarms and my texts are sounding correctly with the default sounds, but anything I'm trying to adjust under Settings-Apps-Notifications just are not working. You guys would be amazing if you could help figure this out! :D

Thanks.

Hi, on one of the screenshots I sent it shows that I've what I've done on for the app is set up the Notification Style to be Sound and Pop-up, and the Sound to be Airplane Ding from Zedge. However, the phone does not turn on nor does it play any sound. However, my texting app Pulse allows me to set up turn screen on and select sound in the app itself, and then it works for only this app (and probably others that have independent setups)! Does this help?

OK. so I went to the Alexa app and just used a random sound listed in the group. I was able to add the sound and then to verify I did some actions to some alexa routines, which triggered the "meteor" sound with the specific notification. prior to this test, I had the app silent, so I am able to make changes.

do note I am on the Samsung UI beta.

I also see my alexa app is slightly different than yours. same app version. Are you located in the US?

I am also able to ADD a notification sound which I did but did not upload that screen shot.

Hi, yes I am in the US, and am on Samsung One UI 1.5.

I downloaded Alexa again a few days ago again (after heard resetting for the 4th time!), so that is strange they would be different. I am on version 2.2.304581.0.

I did set up a routine under Alexa, and no luck with with pop-up on screen nor any sound...

Thanks for your help me out- I really appreciate it!

Oops, I made a mistake! I was still connected to the Jabra speaker phone in my car. I disconnected the Bluetooth and tried the Alexa routine again, asking it to say hello to me. it did say hello to me, but did not turn the screen on. Additional information that will hopefully help... Sorry for the confusion.

so the issue is you can not get a change in SOUND or you cant get the pop up on the screen?

is there another app you use that you can change the sound/notification on and it works to your satisfaction?

So sorry, I missed your response yesterday!

I can't get the display to turn on nor a sound from the system. Both are not working! The only app I've tried is the Notification Catch app. It works ok, but it is not as granular at all. It just gives you one sound for the app it is 'catching'. So for example with Alexa there are quite a few different notification types, but you only have the option of one sound profile for Alexa. I'd love some other suggestions for other apps with more granularity and work reliably, or preferably to get the phone like it should! Is there a chance the phone could be defective?

the phone is not defective. i would not use any other 3rd party apps that take control of your notifications until you sort out the issue.

i will admit I dont use alexa's sound notifications but i do many other apps and they all have their own sound profile separate from the main "system sound". maybe what you are asking fro the alexa app is not possible in the latest build? you may want to reach out to amazon (there is a good subreddit r/amazondev but dont quote me on the exact spelling) and see if they have changed the app. you seem to know how to change the sound settings and I was able to change the sound settings for one particular routine , but i did not try other settings on that app. it may be just an issue with that app...
