Cool things to do with ADW Launcher 2

I have no idea how this would be done on window$; maybe someone else can help with that.

But you don't need a physical connection to a computer to exchange files with your phone. I do it daily, and can't even remember the last time I used a cable. I just copied some files from my main laptop to my phone--I'm in bed, the laptop's in the dining room. :)

See my earlier post for the directory names you need for adding fonts to ADW. They're what you'd look for when connecting to a computer.
I can probably figure it out, maybe via dropbox .. But in a strange weird way it keeps acting like a nerf ball, always bouncing back ohhh pooo .

That's an option, but it's the long way around.

Okay.... I have no idea what you mean.

There are many ways of getting your phone and computer to talk to each other, without cables and without cloud storage, just direct communication between the two. If you need help, just ask. :)

I do appreciate that, but since we're on different planets where OSes are concerned, some things I do [easily!] on Linux may or may not be doable on windows. Let's toss around a few methods that should work.

1) There's always Airdroid, which should work with any browser/OS. Install the Android app on your phone. Then, on your computer, use a browser to go to the URL Airdroid shows you; it'll include your phone's IP address, and look something like: 192.168.1.101:8888

When you're first using it, you'll have to tweak its settings, for example, whether to allow the computer to connect to the phone without any input from you [on the phone]. Once it's set up, it's very simple to use; you'll see the contents of your phone in your browser, and have upload/download functions for exchanging files. I use this rarely, and mostly just for fun.

2) Some file managers have a service similar to Airdroid built in. In your file manager look for something like 'remote manager' or 'access from PC.' On your phone, you activate the service; like Airdroid, it'll tell you what URL to enter in your computer's browser. I'm not very familiar with these, but I think they only work one way, i.e., seeing the contents of your phone and downloading its files. I don't actually use these.

3) Using Dropbox or Google Drive is an option. From your computer, upload the fonts you want, then from your phone, download them into the correct directory. I wouldn't use this method.

4) My go-to choice, and what I use throughout the day: networking. I've set up all my computers to be networked, giving full read and write access to all the other devices on the same network [with correct account credentials]. So I access their files as if they're local. All of the apps I use, such as image editors, photo galleries, file managers, etc., can up- or download files, or entire directory structures, easily. This is what I recommend.

Huh tired Airdroid many moons ago, I thought it was not supposed to synch, or I just got confused and really busy with stuff anyways. Well I am not a super expert of networking anyways.I will try airdroid.

Airdroid really is extremely easy to use; I'm having a hard time picturing what about it could be difficult.

Get it installed and go through its settings. If you're unsure about anything, ask. Then do as I described earlier and connect to your computer. This should just work.

I seriously have no clue what you're referring to. QR? USB? Never heard of any such thing with Airdroid.

Did you follow my link to it in the Play Store? And installed it on your phone? And opened it? And went into its settings?

Show me a screenshot of its settings page on your phone, like this:

We'll go from there. Honestly, Milo, Airdroid is one of the simplest, most straightforward apps I've seen. I don't really use it much myself, because I have a superior method that I prefer, but I recommend it easily because it's so foolproof. You should not be having problems like you're describing.

I tried it on the air droid web site, followed each one, and still my device cannot be found, or vice versa... I am really sick too, so that could be throwing me off too.

There's -no- need to be on their web site. Just install the app on your phone, open it, and show me a screenshot.

I'm sorry you're sick. Maybe it would be better to just take care of yourself right now, and tackle this when you're feeling better.

Drink lots of fluids!

Yay! Yes, you must have done...something...else. :)

Now have you gotten your phone and computer talking to each other via your web browser? From there, it's just a simple matter of choosing upload or download and you're good to go! You should see this on your computer:

Wait...WHAT?! How/where/what do you mean? And it doesn't matter, because whatever you did you can just undo it or forget about it, and re-do what you meant to do. It's this simple: find the font(s) you want on your computer, upload them to the correct directory on your phone. That's it. In its entirety. How you got PDFs involved is beyond me!

Was a choice my phone had though, is there a way how to revert it?

I'm trying hard to picture this...but I just can't. Your phone had nothing to do with anything [aside from being the destination for the fonts].

Start over.

Tell me step by step exactly what you're doing.

The only thing involved is Airdroid in your computer's browser, connected to your phone as explained/shown above.

Step one, went to airdroid, got to the point of where I did download the fonts in.
But they never seem to find in the font list in each folder.
I did try to do the web about a second ago, still I cannot think of where I put the font in it.
I think in the download directly of the sims card, so I checked it on it, it saids "No can view without a pdf exploer."
So I did check into that, I carefully tried googling it, but no dice so far..
Step six : I got into the mirror for the comp over to the phone, no such luck there.

Okay, Milo, you're just complicating something that should've been very straightforward. I don't know why you're straying from what you should be doing, but until you follow the instructions I've given throughout this thread, you're going to be out of luck.

For example, I carefully, accurately spelled out the directories on your phone where you need to place the font files--but you're not putting them there.

Adobe? PDF viewer? None of that has anything to do with this!

The steps are literally:

- open Airdroid on your phone

- use a web browser on your computer to connect to your phone:

tmp_Airdroid_120819.jpg

- select "Files"

tmp_Airdroid_upload_fonts_for_ADW_1.jpg

- open the "Airdroid" directory and go into its "upload" sub-directory, then press the 'upload' button (which on my screen doesn't have a name--I've highlighted it in the rectangle):

tmp_Airdroid_upload_fonts_for_ADW_2.jpg

- navigate to wherever your font files are stored on your computer; select the font(s) you want; remember ADW can only use TTF and OTF files:

tmp_Airdroid_upload_fonts_for_ADW_3.jpg

- press "Open" (or however it's worded on your browser) to start the upload; you should now see signs that the upload was successful; the fonts should be sitting right there in Airdroid's "upload" directory:

tmp_Airdroid_upload_fonts_for_ADW_4.jpg

- now "cut" or "copy" the font files:

tmp_Airdroid_upload_fonts_for_ADW_5.jpg

- go to the ADW sub-directory I've spelled out in bold earlier in this thread; "paste" the font files there:

tmp_Airdroid_upload_fonts_for_ADW_6.jpg

That is it! Open ADW's settings and you will now find the fonts you added. If you followed my instructions to the letter. :D

Uhhu... Soooooo any more surprises for this launcher? :)
You can't possibly be done exploring its many features! I've used it for months, and am still discovering new things all the time.

Dig in and experiment. In case you hopelessly screw things up, it's a good idea to make a backup before you start. That's what I do!

Nope I am not done by a super three way shot :)

I just back up :)

No kidding, I also have it on my tablet too :D Ergo whatever I do discover on my tablet, I will try to remember what I did so I can discover something new on my phone :D

That's the way, Milo! :)

Explore its features by really diving in and seeing what's there. For example, to get to one of my favorite features [pictured in one of my OP's screenshots], choose 'Widgets' from ADW's settings, and add an 'Activities' widget to your screen. Then you'll be presented with a list of Android features, including many hidden ones, that you can use. Give it a try! Post pics! :D
