Water damage stains

My moms phone got wet and then something red must have touched the screen. Now she has a few red stains on the screen. How do you safely clean them off? (BTW this is not recent. Phone is dry. It happened montjs ago)

Do you know if these red stains are on the ouside, or inside, like in the display itself? Because if they're inside, you can't really do anything, other than repair or replacement. If they're outside, you could probably try glass-cleaner or something.

Maybe it's rust?

I THINK they are on the outside. Do you mean like Windex? I would think that may ruin it further. Is there a less abrasive choice?
Thank you for replying.

As I don't know what phone you've got there, make and model. Is it glass or plastic? Although a plastic screen would only really be on something really cheapo. If it glass, like Gorilla Glass, Windex should be absolutely fine, although use it sparingly on a cloth, and keep it away from speaker holes and things. Probably don't use Windex on plastic.
