Anybody 100% Happy? (2.1)

Is there anybody who is 100% happy with the 2.1 update?

I can't decide if I am just not happy with 2.1, or if I was so excited that I just expected so much more. Random reboots, system-wide lag, various little bothering bugs, etc.

I'm just curious whether or not most people are in my boat, of if most people are loving the update. At this point, I am NOT loving the update.

Because of the simple fact that Landscape Keyboard text input is IMPOSSIBLE due to the overwhelming lag, NO - I hate this update. I wish now I could go back to 1.5. This is f*cking bull shit. A simple feature like a touchscreen landscape keyboard worked better on 1.5 than it does on the messiah known as 2.1. If HTC doesn't patch this, it will be the last HTC phone I ever buy.

The laggy keyboard is easily fixed by using handcent instead of the stock messager. Ive been running 2.1 for about 4 days and i really like it. No complaints yet at all. Keep in mind tho, that i only had my hero for less than a week before 2.1 came out, so i never really got to play with it enough to know what i didnt like about 1.5 too.

I wouldn't hold your breath for another update. I really think the hero has reached its shelf like and at this point it is take it or leave it.

I know, I am not hopeful for an update.

I almost think the update was purposely crappy so that all Hero owners would want to get the EVO. It's kind of like Microsoft's Xbox 360 ban wave right before Christmas. Weed out the old, make them buy the new. Big time sales...

Only time I have bad keyboard lag is in landscape making a internet post. Hate it. Handcent is awesome specially voice to text

The bluetooth sucks... I can't believe that they can not get something like bluetooth right! it has been around for 16 years... not like it is an old tech. I get more force closes now than I did on 1.5.... I have had this phone for like 3 months and had 1 force close on 1.5... I have had at least a dozen in the past 2 days... just using the phone as a phone it force closed on me. I had to reset to make a phone call!

i have no issues with my phone at all, but my now my gf is going nuts wanting so i guess its means i'll be getting the evo against my will *wink*

What I had anticipated doing with my Hero. But now I have talked about Evo too much, so she wants that too. Newly married, so am still in the "wanna please my bride stage", so expect us both to have the Evo in the next month. :p

But to answer the OP, I never had 1.5, got my Hero the day 2.1 arrived. Don't use Bluetooth, so don't care about those issues. I use Better Keyboard for voice to speech, and have NO lag in portrait. Just checked it again now and no way I can type as fast as it will accept input. so again, no lag.

So yes, I am 100% Happy. If not for my constant lusting for Evo's great big screen, I would be happy with my Hero forever.

Considering how well the Zen ROM works on my Hero - which is based on the MyTouch 3G 2.1 ROM (for T-Mobile GSM, with Sense) - it's hard to understand why the MyTouch ROM, even after mods and great strides to de'T-Mobile it, would work so much better than a 2.1 ROM that was made for the Sprint Hero ...

Rather than do the official update, I decided to take the plunge and root my phone. I flashed fresh rom 2.1.1 and couldn't be happier. Its like I have a new phone, and its way more flippin fast than my stock 1.5. I think what drove me over the edge was the fact that I was sick of all the bloatware that I knew would be on the official 2.1 update. My only regret is that I didn't root sooner. It was way too easy for me to have waited so long.

I'm the anomaly. Totally happy with 2.1. It's much smoother and more solid. Love having access to new apps (like Goggles). My battery life is now hugely improved over 1.5.

My phone did stop vibrating, but I think that's a hardware issue.

Sorry to disappoint...

Nah... you're not an anomaly. I was actually happy with my 1.5 Hero. But wanted to wait and see the dust settle prior to making any move to update.

So... I waited all this time to ROOT. I did so because I wanted the ability to back out of 2.1 if in fact I didn't like it. SO, I used the 2.1 update file provided by Damagless over at XDA that he made ROOT compatible.

All I have to say is WOW... I have not experienced any LAG at all. Really didn't experience it much prior either (1.5) but it did happen here and there. The 2.1 snaps now, I would definitely say it's an improvement, but not perfect. I liked the old Camera Menu, but probably just cause I was used to it now. The Settings Menu and the now included tweaks are nice. There's a lot of little things that seem much easier like setting up Email accounts too. The WEB Browser is snappy too. I am in the process of finding and reinstalling my apps as I want to do it all fresh rather than from a backup, just to make sure each app coexists nicely with the new OS update. I'm reserved about the automatic inclusion of FACEBOOK contacts into my Phone contact list, but I really don't have that many so I will just delete them. I haven't had much time with MMS/SMS but will play with that later and make sure all is good there. The Google Maps ROCKS!!! hahaha, I was happy with the old one cause I don't need turn based directions (I can read a map ;)) but I like the TRAFFIC info and the new one has that too and more so I'm ecstatic. I still would prefer a preloaded MAP app from Google so in areas of bad signal, it will not lose functionality. No Vibration or Audio issues so far and my BT works well. I even noticed something int here about OBEX and is something I thought was sorely missing from 1.5 and will try that out too later.

Sorry for the long notes, but it's like I'm going through a new phone and learning all it's features again. So yeah! I'm happy!!! :D

By The Way... ROOTING couldn't be any easier. Truly... Read and follow these instructions and info here:

Correct and also Chomp, they both work fin in landscape with no issue, and are much better than the stock messaging Proggy
