And looky here, PhoneArena got their hands on a picture of the Droid Eris box and a few others of the phone itself:If you’re really wanting a Verizon Android but [...]

Wow Ok... Im new to these android/smartphones ....

So what would you guys suggest as a new comer to these devices?
specifically betweet the Droid and Desire

I'm new to it, too. I'm looking at it like this...if I'm gonna give Android a true shot, I'd rather do so w the Eris($99) than the Droid. Besides, I really don't care for the look of the Droid all that much.;)

Just what i was thinking... I see it uses the older system so can we upgrade to 2.0?, will it handle it? Does it get the google nav?

To the best of my knowledge, it can and will eventually get 2.0, does not ship w google nav and is still pretty fast compared to the Droid. I'll try to get that link for you by someone who played w both the Droid and Eris.

Thanks for that info droidnut..Both devices have there stong an dweak points but as a beginner, I like what i see from the Eris so far :D and i wont be out of too much $$ if i dont like it.. I dont think i would need the power of the Droid as i wont be playing games on it,but my concern would be w/the apps that need the power..
Im not sure on how stuff works just yet with these devices, but i figure if you guys are rooting and jailbreaking these devices which makes them run faster, stronger and whatever else(pleaswe corrrect me if im wrong), then cant that be done with the Eris eventually? And then we have a pretty darn good Andorid for $100.

No prob, ZX. I feel about the same as you. I'm coming from the BB world myself. I'm thinking the Eris should be a great intro for us beginners into Android. We already know that the HTC Hero from Sprint is now getting 2.0 so it's inevitable that our Eris will, too! ;)
A VERY good Android for $100, indeed.
