so i now there are quite a few Star Wars fans that hang out here in AF. i just figured that since Star Wars is such a huge franchise that it deserves its own thread.

so to start the conversation.....one of the few things i have not gotten into is reading any of the books in the Star Wars' universe. has anyone read the books? is there a title i should start with?

on a different topic i just saw this:

i guess i know what i will be binge watching before this season premieres......so excited!!!!!!!!!!!

anyways feel free to discuss anything related to Star Wars.

Star Wars has always been a huge part of my life. i wore out the VHS tape of A New Hope....must have seen that over a thousand times before the tape just blew up on me. my first Star Wars movie that i saw in the theater was Return of the Jedi. and for me no matter how bad the movie was.....i still loved it. i think the worst was the Last Jedi, but these movies brings so much nostalgia to me that i can't stop myself from having fun with it (if that makes any sense).

i when i was taking junior college classes, i took a film studies class, just so that i can watch A New Hope on the big screen in Dolby Surround......that class was awesome, i also saw the Godfather, Singing in the Rain, and Sound of Music.....all on the big screen!!!!!! Ever since Return of the Jedi, i have seen all Star Wars movies in the theater.

but like i mentioned in my op, i have not read any of the Star Wars novels. i love to read and i'm not sure why i stayed away from them. i read it somewhere that since Disney took over, all of the novels published before then are not going to be part of the Star Wars canon anymore.....so do i start with the old books? or start with the latest novels?

I'd like to see a TV series based around Chewbacca's family. Basically a soap opera about the domestic life of Wookiees.
Have you seen the star wars xmas special? Be very careful on what you wish for. It's on YouTube of you have not seen it..... but you can't say that I did not warn you.

All I can say is that I sat in the theater in 1977, jaw dropped, absolutely stunned by what I was experiencing. And 42 years later, I finished the story.

Star Wars did a lot for me: it changed the way I write my stories. It definitely broke every cinematic convention and gave indie filmmakers the confidence to believe that they can go up against the big, bloated studios... and win. It restored the idea that good does eventually triumph over evil. I owe a debt of gratitude to Uncle George and the entire creative team behind the production of the entire saga.

Now it's all coming out in 4K UHD and I'd preordered the entire thing back in December, the day I first heard about it. I just pre-ordered Rogue One in 4K, and everything should arrive by the end of the month. Should be interesting to see Episode IV (the original Star Wars) mastered in 4K UHD!

The entire Skywalker Saga in 4K UHD - all nine movies and hundreds of bonus features, are on the way! Release date is this Tuesday, March 31st. My pre-order has shipped and on the way, as is my pre-order of Rogue One in 4K from Amazon.

For those who have never watched the Star Wars saga (and I've met them), I encourage them to watch them... but NOT in episode order! There's a sequence called "machete order" that makes the saga so much more insightful and keeps the suspense of the original trilogy. Try watching the movies in this order:

Solo (but only if you think you absolutely have to)
    Rogue One
Episode IV - A New Hope
Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
Episode VI - Return of the Jedi
Episode I - The Phantom Menace
Episode II - Attack of the Clones
Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
Episode VII - The Force Awakens
Episode VIII - The Last Jedi
Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker

Watching it in machete order retains the full drama of the original trilogy; then goes back to the beginning so the viewer can understand how things got to that point and how key characters developed; and allows for a passage of time before picking up at Episode VII, which happens some 30 years after Episode VI. Try it!

The movie Solo wasn't even included on my original list. For me, it was so bad that I don't even consider it a part of the set. If you liked it, however, and want to include it, watch it FIRST before any of the others.
