Improve finger print sensor?

I've had this note 10+ a week or so now and really like it except for the finger print sensor built into the screen. Sometimes it works but very often, it doesn't recognize my finger print. Is this normal or is there a way to improve its accuracy?

I registered three fingerprints of the same finger. It rarely fails to recognize at my first attempt now.

also add your fingerprint at the angle you would normally use it. try and get it to recognize as much of the finger tip as possible.

Although in the last day or so, it seems like the fingerprint sensor had been misreading a lot again. I might have to register my thumb a few more times.

I registered my fingerprint each time from a slightly different angle. Each angle were just slight deviations from how I naturally place my finger on the scanner. It took more than just slight pressure to register a print and it takes the same pressure to read.

I always train my sensors by touching from many different angles and positions, to try to cover any way I might touch them.

I did originally do the "multiple copies of one finger" thing, but with my conventional scanner I found it wasn't needed (different device, different scanner, your mileage may vary). But each stored print covers a range of positions and angles.

Samsung needs to be deluged with complaints and calls to put the sensor back where it was on the Note 9... which was the PERFECT spot. On the back, below the cameras & sensors, right where an index finger would naturally rest. Not all of us Note users want to smudge our screens with fingers every time we want to log in, Samsung, really!

Ah, but a scanner under the screen is "cool" and "leading edge" so lets Samsung claim they are "innovating", gives paid influencers something to talk about, etc. Who cares if the conventional technology works better?

I'm getting accustomed to the scanner on the front. In another week or two I'm guessing it will be my preferred location. I'm using a thumbprint for entry instead of a finger now and it is working well for me. I'm back to a one handed entry as before.

I read on the web that having a screen protector on the phone messes with the fingerprint sensor. I didn't think I had a screen protector. I didn't pay for one. The sales guy showed me the phone came factory installed with a screen protector. So, the phone has a fingerprint sensor in the screen that is known not to work with a screen protector and then Samsung puts them on from the factory anyway messing up the fingerprint sensor.

I guess now that I know it's there, I could take it off. But I haven't done it yet.

If my note came with a screen protector, I have not noticed it and I refused the offer of Verizon to put one on. That leaves me to think it's naked... but I honestly don't know. There is an option to increase sensitivity of the screen to compensate for a screen protector. It's found under settings-display-touch sensitivity. I don't have it ticked and find my print scanner the best I've owned. If the option is not enabled, you might give that a try for improvement.

I have very dry skin, so much so that I don't leave fingerprint smudges on my phone. I also have a seriously hard time with the fingerprint reader. I did as well with the Note 8 so I figure it doesn't matter to me whether it is on the front or the back of the phone it is just going to be a pain in my behind. Note that I can get it to work every single time if I put lotion on my hands but that is hardly a practical solution.
