Android 2.2 'Froyo' Coming to Droid, EVO 4G | News & Opinion | PCMag.com

An HTC spokesperson verified that all phones launched this year will most likely at some point receive the Android 2.2 update. In an e-mail, HTC said, "this includes popular models like the Desire and Droid Incredible as well as hotly anticipated phones like the EVO 4G, MyTouch Slide and upcoming models. We will announce a full list of phones and dates once we are closer to launching the upgrades."
Looks like no official 2.2 Froyo update for us.

I don't see where they say it won't come to the eris. Of course they will update their flagship lines first, but we all knew that. If it does come obviously it will be after the incredible and evo are updated, but what else do they have to work on once those are completed? Theres only a handful of HTC android phones and it would bode well for them to update it. Expecially considering they will already have most of the pieces in place with the other phones being updated. It'll be just a matter of testing it out on the eris and fixing any bugs they find. Not to mention google will be putting pressure on them to get the remaining android phones on 2.2 to decrease the market fragmentation that exists today and is a major hurdle for developers hoping to make the jump onto the android bandwagon.

True true.

Even though they have to get it working on the incredible, which means making it compatible with Sense and what not, does not mean they will take the extra time to patch it up for Eris. Although 2.2 from 2.1 will not be as big a jump as 1.5.

Possible still, but I am not holding my breath.

That's old news at this point. It should be noted that they did not specifically say that the Eris, Hero, Magic and Dream would not get 2.2, but I tend to doubt that HTC will bother. It took them this long to get 2.1 on the Hero and Eris, and putting 2.2 on both after months of effort isn't going to get them any more sales of these devices.

Yes it might not get them more sales but it may build brand loyalty. And imo thats even more important than a few sales they may gain because of it. Who looks bad if it doesn't come? Verizon? Nope. Google? Nope. HTC looks bad.

I thought is was pretty generous of Google/HTC to update us to 2.1. After a certain point, most manufacturers would refuse to update and make us buy "new/improved" products.
If we're able to get Froyo on the Eris, I will stay loyal to HTC handsets in the near future. I'm with Verizon, which is rumored to get the iPhone soon and thought I would make the jump when it became available to me.
Android is doing a great job, I'll stick with them...

isnt one of the ota's or leaks labeled desire. just what i thought of when i posted that, im sure you guys are right though...
Yes, the update filename is rather long, includes numbers and what-not, and includes "desire" in the name.

When you boot the phone in recovery mode (or whatever it's called), it says "desire" across the top too.
