S20 Ultra 5G and Straight Talk

Hi, it's been a few years since I have posted here!
But, I currently have an unlocked Galaxy s9+ on Straight Talk using Verizon towers.

I preordered an unlocked S20 Ultra direct from Samsung and received it yesterday (YAY ME!).

However, Straight Talk is telling me in order to activate, I need to get a new AT&T compatible SIM card that it's not compatible with Verizon.

This makes no sense to me since it is unlocked. I really want to keep the phone, but I do not like AT&T's service so I can either switch back to Verizon (an extra $40 for unlimited data) or send the phone back.

Can anyone explain further? (I didn't buy the phone for the 5G. I realize that Straight Talk doesn't have 5G).

Thanks,
Kathy

The unlocked s20 ultra is absolutely compatible with Verizon, @Rob just got his Ultra and is on VZW. Not sure about Straight talk though.

Can you can VZW and see if someone there can shed light?

(oh, and welcome back!!!)

I also had the S9+ and also purchased the S20 Ultra unlocked. I took the SIM from my S9+ directly into the S20 Ultra and it worked just fine without any configurations are phone calls needed.

I'd tell the people at Straight Talk you would like them to triple check because there are confirmed cases of the unlocked version working on Verizon towers with Verizon SIM cards coming from the exact same previous model device.

Let us know!

It's compatible with Verizon, I'm changing to them. For now anyway. They let me bring my own phone. And I can get $250 to boot. I'll give it a couple of months, then see if I can switch back to Straight talk. I like Straight Talk as long as it's using the Verizon towers. but the 5g may be why they won't let it use Verizon towers. AT&T supposedly has 5g somewhere in my city, though I couldn't find it on their map. I don't want anything to do with AT&T though...except Directv LOL

Right now I am waiting for Straight Talk to finish porting my number. They are slow with that I guess.

Oh my goodness, I called Tech Support, they gave me a temporary number and then sent me to the port center, who was mad they gave me a temporary number. But my number isn't scheduled to be ported to 3/9. She is going to contact straight talk and see if they can get it done today so she has to call me back in an hour. What a mess LOL

Wow, that does stink. But, I guess there is a reason they are cheaper, still though, shouldn't be so hard to get good help.

Well update, the Verizon rep in the port center called me back in an hour like she promised, but while she was on the phone with straight talk, they both lost their computers. So she was going to call me back today. BUT she called me back about 10 minutes later and everything was all set. My phone switched to my old number at 1am just like she said. I was a little nervous at first because I shut it off for 5 minutes like she told me, twice, and it didn't update. So, I did a factory reset, and when it came back on, it was my old number!! So then I had to stay awake a little while longer and set it up and redownload my apps. LOL But so far I love the phone!! It's almost set up. Just need to do my ringtones and fix my notifications and stuff!! Thanks for your suggestions and help!
