Happens all the time to various bodies of water in the summer when you have weeks longs stretches of hot weather. The good news is that nowadays public swimming areas are tested daily unlike when I was a kid and swam in that crap.
I was in middle school when I fist went swimming in a pool. It was freaky seeing my feet under the water. I grew up swimming in the muddy creek. I survived.... true, I'm far from normal, but I survived.
Every time we have a bad rain down here all the crap from the Tiajauna river pollutes our beaches , we end up having to stay out of the water for about a week after.
I did see a news report that California is also under a state of emergency for Covid-19. Things like travel restrictions, large public gatherings banned, etc.
