Help App similiar to City ID?

Is there an app that is similar to CityID thats available on the Market (that's free)?

Although its really just an added luxury of seeing what the originating area of the call is, I wouldn't mind having it.

Do you know how reliable this is? It says for incoming calls that the country will be displayed and only if available, the city/state. I do not make international calls nor receive them, so the country isn't really important to me as is the city/state.

No clue - haven't tried it. There is another app out there that I was originally looking for. I installed it on my Eris and it seemed to work, but I can't recall the name.

I'm not sure why City ID is such a big deal, or why it's an app that costs money. My old Samsung Gleam flip phone always identifies the location of unknown callers by default... doesn't cost a damn thing, isn't an app or anything.

Yeah...City ID is pretty damn stupid.

It's no different than any other app out there - in that it provides a little customization to our phones. Only it costs monthly rather than a 1x charge. Charge $4.99 and I bet a shit load of people will buy it - probably more than actually 'rent' it.

How the #@%* can the City ID app be KILLED once and for all??? It cannot be uninstalled and the damn thing keeps popping up and running no matter what I try to do to kill it!! Help!!!

You just let the CITY ID deal run its course and then it will stop working (after 2 weeks) and you should never see it again.

Well it looks like it's actually CDMA networks can't do voice and data at the same time (which may be different from voice and wi-fi). So really you'd need a static (meaning on the phone itself) database of area codes and phone prefixes that an app would lookup for this to work on verizon. Unless google lied to me.

The last screen it should show after the 2 week window has the option of "Yes" "No" .. I forget what it asks, but it will give those two options. Hit "No" and it will go away forever (but still be installed on your system)

works fine for me... i think it has an option to find caller before call... but it does find them after the call too so u can call them back if you know the person

Actually they can... just can't run 1X and EVDO at the same time. Hopefully the rumors will pan out that VZW is going to go live with VoEV(Voice over EVDO) soon. VZW transmits all voice over the "old" 1X network, hence why all newer phones switch to 1X bars when making a call.

The next revision of CDMA supports simultaneous voice and data. However, VZW is investing in LTE, so I don't know that they'll do both.

@kevin49er - I am not an expert in this area, so if either of these falls into VoEV, I'll defer to you (although to me, VoEV sounds analagous to VoIP, which would be a third option, unless that is how the next rev of CDMA works).
