Anybody pissed yet? I am. this whole thing that everyone is dealing with could have been prevented or at least be in more in control of it...at least here in the US. we could have at least controlled the spread and thus reducing the fear that the public has.

there is so many things that went wrong here in the US.
    1. we could have had tests back in Jan. the WHO offered the US test kits. we can still get tests from them. but are we?????? NO!!!!!
    2. we should be building triage centers to help alleviate emergency rooms and hospitals when this really blows up. but are we doing it?? NO!!!!!
    3. why did trump cut departments in the WH that was dedicated to situations like this?
    4. why was there no message or concern about the virus and being prepared for it? we thought it would never reach the US shores.......THEY WERE WRONG!!!!!!!!
    5. two weeks ago, the president was nonchalant about the virus. did he regret this?? NO!!!!! he takes no responsibility for what is going on now. In fact he blames Obama (his defacto go to scapegoat)!!!!!
    6. his new travel ban is also now causing chaos in airports. we are supposed to reduce being in large crowds. but because there is lack of communication and coordination we have a cluster f@ck happening at our airports!!!

testing is the key. and we are so far behind other countries on testing. what is happening here is pathetic!!!!!!!

so i know this is a hot topic, but i want to have adult conversation here. lets be civilized as much as we can. but i want to know if others here are as pissed as i am? or are you happy with how we are treating the current crisis? thoughts????

I think Coronavirus will pass by quickly like Sars did.

I think businesses here closing and having police presence is a little crazy.

I was doing well on coronavirus stocks but when it crashed the market, well needless to say it dented the pockets.

It's insanity here in Illinois with Walmart being emptied of toilet paper, bleach, lysol etc. I'm talking about bare shelves and fist fights lol.

not with the rate of spreading currently going on. i think the death toll will slow down. but i think more of us will get infected before this thing is done. it will not be over until we get a vaccine which is at least a year away. covid-19 i'm afraid is here to stay and at some point will be in the same breath as influenza. but that will not be the case until we get a vaccine.

I don't like the fact that China did 200,000 tests daily for the virus, and has curtailed it, while the CDC in Atlanta is at a whopping 8 tests daily....
Now whoever dropped the ball on this needs to go!!!!
yep i agree. we had the ability to test back in Jan when the WHO offered us their tests. whoever turned them down is an effen idiot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't like Schumer at all but this is a hoax. He never sent that tweet.
    yep you are correct:

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has used Twitter to repeatedly criticize the Trump administration’s response to the spread of the novel coronavirus.

But screenshots circulating on Facebook use a fabricated post alongside one of Schumer’s actual tweets to make the prominent Democrat look as if he contradicted himself.

Schumer did indeed tweet on Feb. 24 that, “We’ve seen no sign that President Trump has any plan or urgency to deal with the spread of the Coronavirus. We need real leadership, and we need it fast.”

But the New York senator didn’t tweet on Feb. 5 about Trump’s “premature travel ban to and from China,” as the doctored post shows. The fake tweet references the Trump administration’s decision on Jan. 31 to bar foreign nationals from entering the country if they visited China in the preceding 14 days (with some exceptions).

The full fabricated tweet reads: “The premature travel ban to and from China by the current administration is just an excuse to further his ongoing war against immigrants. There must be a check and Balance on these restrictions.”

We could find no such tweet by Schumer’s account on his feed. ProPublica’s tool to track deleted tweets from elected officials also shows no such tweet — or any other deleted tweet about the coronavirus — by Schumer. The senator’s spokesman also confirmed to the Associated Press that the tweet was fabricated.

Schumer’s 14 tweets on Feb. 5 focused on the Senate impeachment trial of Trump, which was concluding; Trump’s State of the Union address the night before; a black transgender activist; aid to Puerto Rico; and voting rights.

Some who helped spread the fake tweet later corrected the record. The conservative Power Line blog declared it “a hoax” and apologized to readers.

It's all pretty irrelevant as Trump's support base will always support him no matter what the current issue is for the day. His average approval ratings show that well over 40% of public don't even bother to pay attention to any details, or documented history (long or short term) and will remain loyal to him.

Watching all the melodrama being played out with the Democratic primary, as terrifying as it is I don't see Trump as losing the next election. I think he'll lose badly as far as public vote counts, but will still win the Electoral Collage vote count.
The biggest issue that always gets glossed over is we elect a president through the Electoral College, not by public vote -- it's 538 people who get to decide who gets to be president. The public vote count on Election Day is just for entertainment and statistical analysis, it's that tiny, minuscule number of people that determine who wins and who loses. And they get carefully vetted and chosen by one of two ruling parties, there's no public vote count involved in choosing the Electoral College electors either.
When the Electoral College numbers and the public vote numbers don't correspond, we all get into an uproar over voting reform for a few days or weeks. But since our attention spans are about as long-lived as a potato, the bureaucrats in charge know they can keep the status quo in place until the next election and the cycle will just repeat again and again.

yeah do not get me started on the very outdated electoral college scheme.

but my point is that the president should not be calling it the Chinese virus. viruses do not care about country or race. all it does is racial profiles the virus. it scares people in believing that China is the reason behind it. to me it is offensive and is racially driven. everybody else agrees that the virus should have a generic name. everyone else is on board. WHY NOT THE PRESIDENT??????

Xenophobia is one of his electoral tools, so there's little chance of him changing. And he would definitely prefer his "base" to think that their relatives died because of something foreign rather than because his administration was slow to take it seriously.

The origin of a major disease can be a sensitive thing even a century later though. The 1918 flu pandemic virus was certainly circulating amongst British and American troops in 1917, but theories about where it originated are many and inconclusive, and include both China and the United States (and includes studies from authors in each country denying their own was the source). One thing that is certain though is that the "Spanish Flu" did not originate in Spain: it acquired that name because the Spanish press reported the development of the epidemic, while Britain, America, France and Germany suppressed the story in order to preserve morale during the war (which, from an epidemiological point of view, is about the worst strategy imaginable).

Rationally where a virus originated is irrelevant: unless it is an escaped bioweapon or laboratory sample there is no blame to attach to the area where it first mutated into a dangerous strain. And you can safely dismiss anyone who suggests that this is an escaped weapon as a paranoid crank.

I'm still not sure your President gets the severity of the situation. Last night he tweeted "WE CANNOT LET THE CURE BE WORSE THAN THE PROBLEM ITSELF. AT THE END OF THE 15 DAY PERIOD, WE WILL MAKE A DECISION AS TO WHICH WAY WE WANT TO GO!".

To put that into perspective, I've been looking at plots from the Financial Times (unfortunately behind a paywall) which show infection rates and death rates in different countries normalised to similar points in the outbreak (days since the 100th confirmed case and 10th confirmed death respectively). What I see is that about 6 days ago the curves in the US got significantly steeper: right now the only country I can see with a steeper rate of infection is Turkey (who are at a much earlier stage) and the death rates have a similar gradient to what Italy had at the same point. Currently at 18 days since the 100th verified case the USA has more cases than China had at the same stage and many more than Italy (the US of course has a much larger population than Italy, though a much smaller one than China). Of course official infection stats depend on testing regimes, but by international standards the US lags badly there so that doesn't provide grounds for optimism.

So all the indicators are that the US has a major problem that is getting worse rapidly, and yet this idiot is suggesting that measures might be loosened??

It was first officially identified in China so Chinese Virus. Just like the Spanish Virus was first acknowledged as an epedimic in Spain.
Except that we know the "Spanish Flu" did not originate in Spain (and incidentally that name is not universal - it is used in English-speaking countries, ironically the ones who suppressed the fact of its existence - but it has other names in other countries).

Moreover it was internationally agreed some time back that epidemic and pandemic viruses should be given descriptive names (e.g. covid-19) and not national labels.

So no, it's not legitimate naming. It's a name invented for one man's electoral purposes, which is why he and his shills are the only people you'll hear use it.

just to be clear the flu, otherwise known as influenza is a form of coronavirus.....which is why COVID-19 is also called the "novel(new)" coronavirus.

It was first officially identified in China so Chinese Virus. Just like the Spanish Virus was first acknowledged as an epedimic in Spain.
yes it may seem innocent with the name....but it is not. it draws on the attention of that country and that race. it incites fear of the country or race. and fear just like in Star Wars leads to the Darkside and violence. please watch the youtube video i posted with George Takei. and as @Hadron stated trump and his bafoons are using it only for political purposes.

did you guys see the photo of trumps speech where the word corona was crossed out and Chinese was sharpied in? ridiculous!!!!
