Any Time is Grillin Time

I'm grilling some bork burgers right now. 80% beef and 20% pork. Tomorrow I'm smoking a pork butt. I'm so very hungry for pulled pork! Last weekend the market was out and so was I. :( There were plenty to choose from today and I bought a beauty. It was no bargain but so what. I'm hungry for it, :)
do you get a butcher to do the beef pork mix? or do you do it yourself? never tried a mixture like that.

The first time I tried bork it was in Phoenix Az. It came from a small local butcher near my daughter's home. That was around four years ago. I talked to my butcher but working for a grocery chain he couldn't hook me up. Then about a year ago he had it for sale. I asked him what was up. He told me I wasn't the only customer asking for a beef / pork blend and the powers that be decided they would try marketing it. I think you will find the blend in all Kroger stores if one is in your area.

It isn't beef flavored or pork flavored. It has enough fat to cook well without a lot of shrinkage. I like the blend really well for grilled burgers. I love making a meatloaf with the blend. It's just different enough tasting that it's interesting. The texture is typical ground beef. Give it a go if you get the chance. I think you will like it.

yeah no kroger here in LA. i believe Ralphs is under the Kroger banner. i'll check to see if there is anything like there. is it prepackaged? or behind the meat counter?

it sounds delicious!!!!! i wonder if it is available online or not.
My local market is branded Dillons but it is Kroger owned. The bork is wrapped in the case in two pound packages. Good luck.

It was a beautiful day here. It was absolutely a delight to be on the patio smoking a pork butt. The butt I smoked today was a lot larger than my normal pick. It was the smallest available so it was my choice.. right at ten pounds. It took nine hours at 250° to reach my target temp of 205° with the last two hours wrapped. It turned out great but it's difficult to mess up pulled pork. I'm glad it's good for I'll be eating it for a week. :)

I went to the store on my way home from work today for some staples (flour, brown sugar, etc.) and decided tonight was a break from plague cooking night. I grabbed some fresh ground beef, red onion, lettuce, tomato, & bacon and we are having bacon cheeseburgers with the works. I'll bake some tater tots with my homemmade veggie rub on the side and it will all be good.

In these times you have to mix it up to keep your family from doing a menu revolt.

I have eyed the lamb chops at Costco as well. I've never cooked lamb and to top that I've never eaten lamb. They looked lean in the meat counter. I would love to give them a try sometime. ... after you tell me how they taste. :)
i love lamb. it is a bit different then most meats. it is a bit gamy, but really good. i think i bbq'd a few times while back. i think a marinade of rosemary and garlic with a splash of lemon right before it goes on the grill sounds good. i hope they still have some, might have to take trip over to grab me some.

I ran to Wally World yesterday. They are my go to source for seed for my parrot being as my local pet shop closed a couple of years ago. I checked their pellet stock and found their shelves full once again. I bought a couple of 40 pounders as per normal and was a happy shopper. I never ran completely out but my local stock was as low as it's ever been. It feel good to be back in business boys and girls.

I have a thick cut ham steak that I might just put some smoke and grill marks on tonight. I'm hungry for some cod but I'm out and have no desire to make a Costco run today.

I have a turkey to throw in some brine tonight. I'll smoke it on Sunday. It is destined to be turkey dinner --> turkey sandwiches --> tourkey pot pie --> turkey noodle soup. Much of which will be frozen for future quick / healthy meals.
Turkey is sounding good to me once again. It takes a month or two for me to recover from a turkey over indulgence but I do love the bird.

I am doing my ham steak as I type. It's smoking now with just a brown sugar glaze. I'll turn up the heat in a few minutes and put some grill marks on it as a finish. Veggies and baked potato chunks will be the sides tonight. We were going to the cabin in the morning but I decided not to mow tonight with the temps so low. I'll mow my Friday and Saturday lawns tomorrow and either head down there tomorrow night or Sunday. I'm off Monday so I'll do Sun/Mon for a weekend. It's time to mow down there and I'm ready to stare at a different wall. The wife has some Keto casserole planned for down there. I might take some burger just in case:)

No.. not at all. It's just a nickname often used for Walmart. They are based out of Arkansas and have member only stores much like Costco called Sam's Club and regular stores carrying general merchandise and groceries called Walmart.

My local Walmart is within a mile distance from my home. It makes it handy to shop there. It is not my favorite store because they are always so busy. Costco is more my speed but it's around 10 miles from here. Sam's is even farther away. No matter how I dislike Walmart, they do have some items that I can't find elsewhere.

20200406_190835.jpg Finally had some days off to get stuff done around the house....and grill.

Steam cleaned my wife's car for the first time since we bought it - in 2011. Mowed. Worked on my old truck some. Just pulled some short ribs off the grill, letting them rest while my wife finishes the sides. 2nd try at short ribs, the 1st turned out ok. Hope these are a bit better though.

Lazy day tomorrow.

I broke a tooth two weeks ago while down at the river. I immediately called my dentist but today was as soon as I could be scheduled. Two weeks my friends! Two weeks without meat! Gruel of some sort has been my diet for the past two weeks.
I was told to wait 24 hours before eating anything solid following the extraction but I figured two weeks were enough and grilled out some burgers tonight. I'm such a meat lover that my burger tasted better than any cut of meat I've ever eaten. :) What a pleasure it was to chew something.

2 weeks....man i would be literally chomping at the bone for some meat. i could never be a vegetarian let alone a vegan. i'm glad you made it thru it. that must have been tough.

tomorrow i'm grilling some pork chops and some italian sausage.

Still mashed potatoes. I love mashed potatoes better than rice.
i'm a 3rd generation Japanese American, so rice will always be part of my diet. but yeah a good garlic mash beats out rice for me.....though i make a mean fried rice.

i just got home early, went to my favorite booze supermarket.....picked up some nice beers and cigars. gonna relax first. then light up the grill and grill me some pork chops and and italian sausage ( i have to cook those before they go bad). probable have some grilled eggplant i picked up at costco as well.
