Excited to get this! Love the look and feel of this box set, 27 discs in total!

Any other Star Wars fans here? Anyone getting this, or have opinions about how Disney handled the Sequel Trilogy?

Originally this was a pick up in person order. After world ended (lol) I got the option to choose shipped. Then Friday i got a UPS email saying it shipped early. Came yesterday. Nothing special, I pre-ordered when the link first went live like 2 months ago. That's why I figured might as well film and post to youtube since it is 'early'.

Since 1977 I've seen every Star Wars movie in the cinema. But I've never been in a hurry to buy box sets of it, but anyway I don't currently have a DVD or Blu-ray player.

I have episodes 1-6 already as HD MKV files(with Chinese captions). Episodes 7 and 8 are kind of meh IMO, Although I liked episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker.

For those who haven't watched the Star Wars saga (and I've met them), I encourage them to watch them... but NOT in episode order! There's a sequence called "machete order" that makes the saga so much more insightful and keeps the suspense of the original trilogy. Watch the movies in this order:

Rogue One
Episode IV - A New Hope
Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
Episode VI - Return of the Jedi
Episode I - The Phantom Menace
Episode II - Attack of the Clones
Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
Episode VII - The Force Awakens
Episode VIII - The Last Jedi
Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker

Watching it in machete order provides the full drama of the original trilogy; then goes back to the beginning to understand how things got to that point and how the key characters developed; and allows for a passage of time before picking up at Episode VII, which happens some 30 years after Episode VI. Try it!

I still wonder what George Lucas was thinking(and smoking) when he made that in 1978? Maybe he should have done a sequel, featuring the family life of Ewoks or Jawas or Tuskens or something? Or perhaps a special featuring Jar Jar Binks's family?

Right?! And he instantly knew how HORRIBLE it was. He's been on a mission to destroy all evidence of it pretty much since it came out. He's commented on it here and there over the years and it is always entertaining.

Sounds like a lot, but really isn't. 2 discs for each movie (blu-ray and 4k), then 1 bonus features disc for each movie.

To answer everyone's questions:

No, I don't have Solo. If you want it in your collection, knock yourself out. I thought it absolutely SUCKED and is one of Ron Howard's worst movies. It had zero character depth, unnecessary elements that didn't propel the story, a non-romance with some gal he was desperately in love with and then... POOF... no more love? Huh? I know he didn't write it, but had I been handed that script (after the first 2 directors were fired), I would have said "uh, no".

The Star Wars Holiday Special was NOT George's idea... it was 20th Century Fox's, who still owns the first film. To get it made, Lucas had to let the studio own it. So they came up with a script that must have been the result of too much cocaine and alcohol. It's a painfully bad thing to watch: not in funny bad, but in "oh, wow... this is horrible!" Lucas held onto to every other movie made in the saga; but 20th Century Fox refuses to give up the original. Lucas has been quoted as saying if he had an infinite amount of time, he would take a ball-peen hammer to every copy of the holiday special and smash it out of existence.

And yes: there are a BUNCH of special features. Like, 18 Blu-rays full of them.

WOuld have been better if it had been Ron's from the getgo, or they left original directors on it. But you know...

And with Disney having FOX now, OG movie (and holiday special) is controlled by disney. I'd like to see a release of the holiday special, just because. And a new one!

The Darling Bride and I set up a schedule to watch them all in machete order, and Friday night was the original Star Wars (now Episode IV - A New Hope). Considering that the negatives had nearly deteriorated to nothing due to the way they were stored, it's a miracle it was salvaged at all. The various types of film used in production didn't help. Saving the movie and then upscaling it to even High Definition was a major achievement.

The 4K mastering SHOCKED me.

I don’t know how they did it, but our beloved movie (complete with Uncle George’s bastardized additions to it) has never looked better. The crisp details, the depth of color… everything looks amazing! It also sounds as good as one could ask for. We look forward to watching The Empire Strikes Back this evening.

Granted: I can tell that our equipment is aging: our curved screen 4K TV is 4 years old, as is the Blu-ray player. It’s becoming evident, after watching several recent 4K releases, that our TV has reached the high limit of its display capability. It’s HDR capable, but not the new HDR+10. There are, no doubt, even finer details hiding in the movie that our current TV simply cannot show.
