Gallery App

What do you mean by "rearranging or sorting" them? Most gallery apps can display in different orders, though most also default to date/time last modified. So which order are you after, and did you try selecting that in their settings?

As for "screwing with them in any way", what does that mean? Is separating them by source (Camera, WhatsApp Media, whatever) "screwing with them", or is merging all of those together "screwing with them". Or do you mean something else entirely?

If you are clearer about what you want it will be easier to help you. I know it's probably obvious to you what you want, but to the rest of us, who have no information apart from the 40 words you wrote, it's less clear.

Thank you. I just want the pictures to stay where I put them, not be sorted into groups by date or anything else, rather like are in Windows file manager, but still available to other apps.

So you want it to show you the pictures by the folder they are in. OK, most can do that. Even Google Photos has that option, but it's not very prominent (one row in the "albums" page is actually images sorted by folder). Looking on my device currently F-Stop has a "Folders" view as the top option in the list of views (and is the only one I use), Simple Gallery always starts with a set of folder (as does QuickPic, but since that was bought by Cheetah Mobile I would warn you strongly against installing that - I have an old pre-Cheetah copy still). I seem to have deleted all of the others I'd tried, but I'm pretty sure all of them could show a folders view somewhere.

Of course within a folder they will still be displayed with some sort of sorting (by date is commonest, but they all let you choose). Some will do some grouping within the folder but again you can change that or turn it off in most cases (e.g. F-Stop just puts a bar across the screen to indicate a change of month, Simple Gallery lets you turn off all grouping). It's worth playing with the settings of an app to see whether you can set it up the way you want.

As for "still available to other apps", I'm afraid I don't understand that. A gallery app is just an image viewer, and its settings have no effect on how another app can view the same images or whether other apps can access them.

There is usually one special case: in your camera app you have the option to review an image after taking it, which takes you into a gallery app. Most manufacturers install their own camera app and their own gallery app, and their camera app is usually hard-coded to use their gallery app for this image review (i.e. there's usually no option to change it to one you might prefer). But you can use that just for review in the camera app and use something else as your actual gallery.
