Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

Hello, folk...

I'm getting back into the world again since my bad health excursion in the past two years.

So, what really does the job re grinding gears... within myself?

Well... COVID19 really grinds my gears, as I understand both sides of the argument:

"I want to go back to work. My family is suffering.."

"I lost my grandpa to COVID19. We must follow what the scientists say about this.."

I get it. Both sides. However, we all know (basically, since the reaction was a bit late at COVID19's beginning) that this virus could've been dealt with in a better way. I mean, look at the idiocy happening in the USA.

If you really want to know what's going on, take a look at Italy. I lost two people in my family in Lombardy, and yes - they were the first ones to "share" it. By accident.

And yep, cruise ships may look great when you're bingeing on Love Boat...

mikedt can fill you all in about his experience in China. About Italy, & the USA - I'm confident about my knowledge about that. I couldn't even go with my family to the funerals; thank you, Coronavirus.

So... it's been awhile since I've posted anything significant in AF. I did jump into threads to see if I could help in my limited capacity...

I'm trying to be a part of things once again. If you'll have me, I'll jump back in as best as I can.

Tell @ocnbrze that I posted more than a few sentences, at any rate. And if Revenant Ghost is still around, say hi for me.

May Peace and Love forever be yours, LW

I asked about you a few times, @LOveWerks, when you were back...and then you weren't. I was worried about you.

Please bring us up to date with what your life looks like now, if you're so inclined.

And, of course, it's good to see you back. :)

We have various coronavirus-related threads you might want to pop in to. If you're interested in discussing its political aspects...that's best put in P&CA...where I rarely venture.

I really do not get it, why would she sleep with her boyfriend, behind my back, while I was staying mentally with her on my vacation?
Gee who does that ? She did told me ages in a repeated manner on how much, "I love you and I will never hurt you." sort of look into her eyes, but then again her actions speak so vibrant, and I was really leaning into the confort of dating again, that makes my final piece nailed, I guess there is a sign in my soul "Please step in my soul, and use the iron boots."

Oh, the tangled weave of a badly-knitted Afghan... that sums up relationships in a nutshell. Y'know, I can sit here and tap in things like "Women. You can't live with 'em, and you can't shoot 'em..."
Or...
"Men. What good are they?"
I won't do that.
Nowadays, people are into online dating.
With mixed results, in my own experience. For me, at the very least, it was a mixed bag. What amazed me was the speed in which "sexual congress" took place.

I may be an older guy, but I know what makes me feel comfortable in a relationship:

Slow down, baby. Ah, jeez. A tough subject. You can laugh here if you so choose.

Good things take time. It still applies in the present. If you're older like me (over 60), and really want to make things interesting, try going to a Senior Resources Development Center. Surprisingly, you CAN meet someone there. Hopefully, she will be very nice. Or he.

Carry on. Best of luck, Milo. LW

I went through losing a kidney. Before that, it was the G Word:
Glioblastoma. So I lost a few more pieces of me. But I'm okay, PSAs are looking good, and I've got an in-home care nurse named Gloria.

She's an @$$ache. Like a hooker with a liberal arts degree: a @#-+&%! know-it-all...

And she uses bleach when she cleans (@#*!). I've got Mr. Clean, Pine Sol, Ajax and Bruce... the only time they get used is on the days she isn't here.

By me. Bleach, in a word, sux.

I can't give up, or give in. I'm late to the game in becoming a grandpa. Which means I have to stay in the fight. My doctors have been great. I've lost a lot of weight, but it is slowly returning. Positive vibrations continue to keep me going, and I'm grateful.

And I still go to therapy. What fun. Whee! This has been an LW Update, brought to you by the man, the master, da MoodyBlues...

LW. This is what you don't read in order to save your sanity ;)

Hi @LOveWerks, great to see you on AF again.

As long as one is not on the Covid-19 Carnival® Cruise or something.

I came back to China in early March, just as the rest of the world started to lock-down and the travel restrictions imposed. But I did have good 7 weeks in UK, Ireland, and Holland. Some of the students started back at our school this week, with a lot of screening and social distancing imposed.

Ah. My friend in English teaching. It's still a strange world in which we live. It's good to read from you again. So...

We got da Corona baby...
We got dem COVID19 blues...
Got batwings on the brain baby
Don' know what I'm gonna do
12 bars of distance & stay at home...
Watch what dem Governors do
Ooh, lawks-a-mussy...

Well... this 12 bar joke isn't meant to offend. As Global Citizens, we're all in this together. Yep. Wash hands. Stay at least 6 ft. away from the nearest person (at least in Western US), & wear a mask.

Maybe the social distancing will bring all of the divided people back together again.

Just an observation. One can only hope.

So - what exactly - is grinding my gears today?

Pharmacies in this COVID19 'new normal.'

My pharmacy is one of the 3 biggest in the US; only a few weeks before Batwing Hell descended upon us, they decided to "farm out" to contractors like Asurion et al... my goodness... I am a Global Cat, but it doesn't thrill me to know about my personal information being read or copied.

Especially overseas. No offense, gang.

That, in effect, is what grinds my gears. My privacy is very important to me. As I'm sure it is with most people. What to do?

I'm going with a local Rx. And they deliver, too. Be safe & strong, everyone.

I tried online dating when I was super young man, it did not turn out so well, but I can still online date anyways, things are just up in the air, just trying to work on my cellphone these days and tablet, keeping my head into what I honestly love.

I lost one of my friends in the convid-19 a spell ago though, it is hard trying to sneak out of line and do a little bit of this or that.
It is a wad of Afgan rug down the cellar, she was my boss. At my side occupation for three years, and it just happened a few years ago.
Yeah? I am barely young as it is, looking at the sunrise side of my early 40s and yeah. I had a few cousins who just saw her down at the store, just kept it extremely low key too. At least I know she is in great hands with her family ya know. So yeah I saw her nearly on every other day.
We chatted forever up a storm too, so yeah how to deleted that instatnt feelings ya know...

But yeah going to try to online date somewhere else.
No kidding, I can really laugh it up on here man, thanks for the words LW :)

There is a dating website named PlentyOfFish... let me tell you, home chop... you will find PLENTY of women recovering from bad marriages/relationships there. I tried that site out back in '09; one year post-divorce, and I thought "Why not? Let's give it a shot!"

O-kaaaaayy...

The first woman I met on an online date was at a local park in NC. She had needs. As in money. I was (and still am) an older guy with health issues, and I wasn't ready to be Sugar Daddy... so, that one went the way of T Rex... but let me tell you:

Real relationships take time. And, a LOT of work. I survived an 18 year marriage, and believe me - my therapists changed regularly during that time (ya-ha-ha-ha). I was a late starter in marriage & parenting, and the only people that really got hurt were my kids. To this day, it still breaks my heart. But you're young, Milo. You still have a fighting chance! Here are LW's rules in finding the right girl:

Rule #1: Never meet her at a bar, dance club or pub. You will avoid the drunks (my ex-wife is an alcoholic; take it from me)...

Rule #2: Don't meet a woman through church. Go back to #1 for clarification, for you may end up drinking...

Rule #3: Damn it. Make it natural, baby. Take her to a good movie. I recommend romantic comedies. If you see her eyes well up in the sad scenes, then you could possibly find your "match."

Or, she's bipolar 1 with schizoid tendencies... be careful, fella.

Rule #4: There are no hard and fast rules. I'm still a romantic, and I think that love is the strongest emotion that humankind possesses. It is a mystery for many (sometimes, it is a cold, hard fact - especially when love becomes hard to find), and for some, it appears easy.

Don't be fooled.

If you're just looking for sex, go to Las Vegas. Or, your own choice of a House of Ill Repute... but if it's love your searching for:

Make it natural. Damn it, make it wonderful. My advice, take it or leave it.

Damn it, I wish this for everyone. It is a completion of your id, ka, ka-tet, whatever... but I'd wager that there are many Gear Grinders that are wishing LW would just SHUT UP about this...

Men, especially Boomers like myself, shouldn't talk about love:

We should be reveling in it.

Peace & Love forever be yours,
LW

Close to an early Beatles lyric

Olbriar. The Beatles & The Beach Boys were a huge part of my formative years. As a kid, you'd hear Frank, Tony, and Louie blasting out of my parent's HiFi... so, I have a soft spot for them, too.

That's what happened when you grew up in '50s-'60s America with a buncha Spaghetti Benders...

"Tu sei Italiano?"
"Sí - SONO Italiano é Americano..."
(speak English when visitors were in the home...)

Oh, yeah... I love The Beatles.
Peace & Love forever be yours, LW

My last online one was well we met in a random chat, We took inside consideration of a lot of work, as well as a lot of promises of each other - she got married five times when we where still in the kiddie pool back in 2001ish,
We finally cracked down on marriage sometime around in 2008ish, of where I was diagnosed with over hyper thyroid, also I have biploar.. Mild bipolar.. My ex was deep into sex, she worked at Bunny Ranch forever ago, not so sure on where she is at now these days. Last I checked her online was she was managing a bank somewhere in Florida, but wolves in sheep clothing though.

I had laost my father due to cancer, and it stunk up everyone else around me, but I terrish him throughout different songs and memories inside different section.

I will take her up to a good movie and take her up inside a nice ice creams for later on, she is a helpless romantic from what I can tell. I first met her mom duration of about the same time as I lost my father in 1999ish, we just started to talking about what is going inside how it does work out, but on the side I did not ask her "So do you have any family, daughters, sons?" I have been a gentlemen duration of meeting her daughters and son in that giant ammount of time. So like I did previous typed up for different eyes on here, I have not dated anyone since I first started to bowl around ten years ago, so yeah kept it low profile, had a few flirts in the bowling alley, nothing too seriously enough of times.

But around three years ago, Kendra entered throughout the bowling alley, we just connected deep enough, also was in the same feild of work as my brother in law, a nuculer scientist, yeah so my other friend whom I known for sometime he just laughed at him, thus he was realising into differentypes and being all smart enough of times.

But Kendra got married before I met her, met her husband at the bowlin alleyway too. It was three Novembers, Kendra moved into..... oh the same town my folks met up in Boston around that area, so yeah, it was kind of really just one big clump after another times.

I did not get into something serious at all when I was younger, just sort of flirted around into this town, gained ammount of time and just out of the survival instinct just balanced it out right ammount of time and money too.

I am ready to give her a lot of relationship work, I met her now husband around the same time I met her mother, we have been like brothers for some time now, I see him whenever I can though every once a while. I tried to break up with them, duration of before the virus kicked it inside the shins too. It is going to hurt the kids more or less, I have met her three year old a few times. So yeah there was something in her eyes, I watched over her daughter one time before, it was a few months ago though.

But here is the real Venus Fly Trap:

She said it first to me, about a few years ago,
she went all in with the cards in the table, held the ace of spades.
I gathered up what I could of her though, but seem like all the cards are just out there on the table,
yet tried to pick them up, but felt like illusions.

Nothing right now, all that I did type for LW is real truth.
I did the online dating when I was young, insstalled every single instant messenger, got kicked out of chat because of that.
But I did the awesome thing, killed one of my many online personas and just bit the bullet..
Thanks for listening my friends. Love to all.

Well smaller then the truth:
Dish network about almost every time, I rewind it a little bit it saids "Limit breach, must go back to the commericals as the show started." And when I push fastforward on my Dish network remote sometimes it skips movies at a time, like huge ammount of unseen movies just go faster, ontop of that, subtitles should always appear, even if you pause it in that nano second, it should automatically appear without me doing this b.s., inside the majority show I watch sometimes, I might as well throw in ending songs, they should tell you if the show ends, or give end credits just not in tiny font, give me a reasons when the dialouge is cut sometimes. But more or less on DVDS they do that, but I am not going to fork over 30$ per facto of that dance along song.

Been a customer for theirs for many years but it is getting annoying.

So this past Saturday I found these replacement cords for my cooler, :thumbsupdroid: figured I could save some money, $15 for a cord vs $100-$150 for a new cooler. I bought two cords :cashdroid:
On Sunday I go to unplug the cooler so the motor can cool and rest
The portion of the power cord that you plug in to the 12 volt outlet had melted:maddroid:
So yesterday I was using the second one, I was unplugging it every hour or two as I drove or when I stopped
Then for two hours I was focused on the road trying to get to the consignee to deliver my load. I pulled in to the consignee and realized that I had forgotten about the cord and yep it had melted two:maddroid::thumbsdowndroid:
So basically $36 down the drain

One word of advice for you, @Milo Willamson: DirecTV. :)

I've had them since ≈1993, and when I've occasionally checked Dish for its packages, hardware, pricing, etc., I never once gave serious thought to switching. DirecTV is the leader for a reason: they're the best! I've never experienced any of the things you've described--and if I did, I wouldn't put up with it.

I will switch over soon, but it has to be a family thing, and my mom already have so many of her shows, already tapped.

I had DirecTV back in the 2000s. It was good, but the packages/prices started getting inflated... so, I switched to Dish - and from 2012-2016, I paid around $58 for MONDO HD channels.

Then, I moved to Colorado. Aye, yie yie... my roommate's mother is a 30-year employee of Comcast - so, we received a gift from her in the form of a Comcast account.

With a Sony Ultra4K television, it works wonderfully. Right now, just about everything within is free. I pay $130 monthly, and I've got every cable news channel - and all of my apps in my SmartTV are within the account itself; so, I said goodbye G Voice (!). I disabled it.

Ultra 4K films are just awesome. And with gigabit ethernet, the speed is great - and streaming 4K movies? No hiccups.

Yes, we're getting a deal. The Internet alone - oyez - that sold me.

DirecTV is the grandaddy of satellite TV. Moody has stuck with them because if it ain't broke, don't fix it. So... whatever worx for you, AF folk in America...

Words are a m..................

There are some people in here that may be saying "hey... is this guy's seven year old jonesing for coffee, or what?"

But we oldsters know the difference... Mom wasn't able to serve breakfast without her morning coffee...

I created this entry for the benefit of the unclear...

Be safe, strong, and da-da-da-da...

I believe that is why my Mother and Father when he was still around, was able to find DirecTV as a flat rate, then it got so inexpensive, we have like three big machines for each room with each of the DVR counterpart, the remote was a slick roundish top and able to find the buttons much easier to control.

I also think it is age and wear/tare for each backwards and forwards buttons on my end, I tend to just do that, or go to "live tv." and back up the episodes I am currently watching, but we are leaning towards streaming because my mother can stream any show she wants on her tablet. She does not stream much on her telephone though, I would not blamer her, the Iphone is too complex for my head anyways. I rather stream a handle of my shows on my Moto and Tablet I got last year ago. Still I think the payment it is around 120$/month though for each channel and music we do get.

They get into Chicago P.D., CSI, those type of shows anyways...

Really Ultra 4K ? I should check some out soon..

Though my sort of defused anger towards her,
I get her family, that is one major thing just need to work through,
I will talk with them in the morning anyways, the puzzle pieces I do not want to walk through,
SSID, Bank, Farm Buildings etc, I should only have it small and tiny, with only a few photos in here and there.
I do not want to lose her though.
