Incompatibility with Chrome and windows mail

When I open a link in windows mail with Chrome the Chrome icon in the task bar flashes in order for me to tap on it to open the link this is not a typical our usual edge does not do this neither does fire fox is the problem with mail or is it with Chrome I have tried switching default browsers in uninstalling and reinstalling and also resetting each thank you for your cooperation

The same thing happened with Avg bowser so it is the Windows mail not Chrome.

I had to drop windows mail as it was a problem I could not fix I tried blue mail from the windows store and that was just as bad at present I have three separate email accounts I have to go to each one individually

That's ridiculous!

I only use Linux, but I know that the mail/newsgroup client I've used for decades, SeaMonkey, is available for other OSes. It's a complete suite; its browser has been my default for, well, decades. It's highly customizable, but more importantly for you right now is that its mail client can handle all the accounts you throw at it!

All of my e-mail accounts, even Gmail [which I don't use--its only mail is from Google, like receipts for Play Store purchases], are listed neatly and I can tell at a glance which ones have new messages. No need to check them one by one!

@PDN I don't think it was meant that you were being ridiculous. She's a terrific, kind and knowledgeable lady. There are a lot of old fogies like me on the forum so you're in company. With forums like this one, which is great in general, there is no overseer so to speak, imv. You may get abrupt or misunderstood or misread answers from someone pitching in early, but hopefully the good, nay great, responders around here may pick up the baton. They will need to understand different people's terminology, windows mail is not the name of a mail provider for example.


Being defensive in turn can cause misunderstanding, but hang in there. We have a lot of very nice people.

If I may ask, what is the name of the mail app that comes with Windows?
I use it but it malfunctions. others I have tried are either not capable of 3 programs or are very difficult.

Outlook. com with Outlook apps for Phone and Windows PC.

People still keep the old addresses if they want, as far as I know.

I think you have an older pc from your other thread I read at the time but didn't quite understand. So you must be logging in to your email on the Chrome browser. I don't know if you said which email provider.
I'm out using various public transport right now but someone will catch up.

Sea Monkey is hard for me to fill in servers etc. unlike others that are automatic.
My mail app that came with Windows is ok for low level users like me but when I click to open a link, the Chrome browser blinks to so I have to click on the browser to open the link.
If I use Edge it is ok. I am using the new Edge with Chrome as a secondary browser in case I need 2 browsers for some occasions like defining something while writing. I have 3 emails; live.com, Gmail, and Comcast. Getting the POP and imap straight is complicated.

I'll get back to you in some hours, but try the Outlook App for Live (do you have Windows 7, 10 or other) just give it your address and password, imap should be default. I use Gmail on the Chrome browser (open from the square dots). Add Comcast on either or another.

If Edge is the default browser that will open for most links. Perhaps Gmail is asking if you want to use Chrome for that link, but I can't read back what you posted for a while.

I have Windows 10 and in al apps there is a 'Mail app'. That is what I am currently using. There is no configuring and it holds my Gmail, Comcast mail and my Outlook.com mail. It has a calendar etc. am content with it as it costs nothing and does the job even if not perfect.
I think it is called "email and calendar".

As for SeaMonkey, all the info you need to fill out its mail fields should be available from the provider. For example, I have Earthlink as my ISP, and have used them as my main e-mail address for ≈27 years. Their site has all the info I needed in order to set up SeaMonkey; ditto for Gmail, and all my other accounts.

If you need help with any of that, whether you're using SeaMonkey or another mail client, just ask!

By the way, I'm an old geezer. A Baby Boomer. And proud of it! There are many people here who, like me, will never see 60 again--and they're of all skill levels.

You're welcome. Rather than calling Comcast, you might want to take a look at their e-mail settings page. That way you can copy and paste the data, rather than try to get it right listening to someone on the phone. If there's anything you're not sure of, just ask!

i have been using chromebooks the last few years and forgot about the windows store and the email app now included. it used to be outlook. not sure on the difference though.

@PDN First off my apologies. I never realised the Tab / Box I click from the Windows Tab. that directly opens Outlook Mail (with a Calendar) was actually called Mail and not "for my mail".
I wouldn't listen to a word more from me from here, but can we get to the nub again.
The Mail App then came with Windows (I preferred calling them Programs)
I tried to recreate from an Outlook email link what happens to you.
Is it just Comcast email?
If you click on a link in a Live / Outlook email will that always open in Edge, but not other email addresses you have added to the Mail App.

You can have the Mail app/program open the Chrome browser by default instead of Edge. I checked how.
Is it only You Tube links?

Personally, I have Outlook mail on the Mail app, Yahoo Mail on the Edge browser, with a shortcut box, GMX work mail on an Opera broweer, and Gmail on the Chrome browser. On my phone I have seperate apps for each.

im still struggling with your initial query where Chrome blinks and needs confirmation for a link (from which email) , where Edge opens directly, as it should.

We probably still haven't answered your questions.
Do you want one email program / app to open all addresses?

Admittedly I don't get email notifications on my pc other than the Outlook app, I just open Edge etc and tap Yahoo for example.

Do you paste a link in to Chrome?
I don't know what happens, and a Screenshot from you might contain personal information, so hopefully this will at least bump your questions for someone to see.
