Upgrading android version

I have a Blackview 9900 which is using Android 9. There are a few features I do not like, and want to upgrade to Android 10. The manufacturer (both on their website and on my device in settings) offers no OS updates yet at this time, and they tell me they have no idea when they will. Is my only option for getting Android 10 to root, and if I root won't there be a chance my device will be a brick afterwards? Thanks for your help.

Do you know if there's an Android 10 custom ROM specifically made for this phone? Because if there isn't, and if Blackview hasn't released Android 10 for it, there's not much point in rooting it otherwise.

yep just checked there really is no development community for the phone.

but that is for root. there is nobody working on custom roms.

......so you are pretty much stuck on android 9.

I just did find buried on their website, a ROM where Blackview encourages rooting and then installing this rar file which I assume is Android 10. I know computers well, but not phones. What are my next steps now that I have this rar file on my desktop? And how do I verify it is android 10 before rooting my phone?

You must be absolutely sure it's the correct ROM for your particular phone, because if it is wrong it either won't work, or it could brick/kill your device.

But as I don't know this phone and what ROM it is, I can't help you much more

it took me to some website, mega.nz and then I downloaded the rar file.
Right now, the build number for my phone software is
BV9900_EEA_S900AA_V1.0_20200522V12
And the file name that I downloaded is:
BV9900_EEA_S900AA-V1.0_20191225V08_user_20200103.rar
I extracted it, but I have no idea what these files are.

"Latest stock ROM" from that I'd assume it's what you've already got in you phone. The latest version of Android 9 that Blackview have released for this device, and they haven't rolled out 10 yet.

Should note, there's no instructions on how you're supposed to use it, like if it needs a computer and the manufacturer flashing tool.

its a link to flash tutorial. i have not downloaded it, but i'm guessing it will also have the flash tools needed to flash their firmware.
