well i'm gonna give it a try and see how much of my cigar i can smoke out here. i just made me a strawberry smoothie instead of my usual glass of bourbon. let's see how long i last.....LOL
We might. Because of the extreme heat, we're in a Stage 2 Emergency/Flex Alert right now, with rolling blackouts possible. If our 40 million neighbors don't comply with requests to conserve electricity, we'll move into Stage 3 again, along with its definite rolling blackouts.
For those unfamiliar with SoCal, the San Gabriel Valley, where @ocnbrze and I live, plus 'the Valley' [where Valley Girls come from , the San Fernando Valley], are almost always hotter than the official LA temperature.
To put it mildly, it's SCORCHING HOT!
By the way, the previous record and heat wave mentioned in the article, from July 2006, are what greeted me when I moved back home from out-of-state. We arrived on July 2nd. It was hot...and kept getting hotter. It seemed like it was never going to end.
It was hot here over the holiday but nothing like you guys in California experienced. High nineties is all but the wind blew like crazy all weekend. Wind is typical for Kansas but it's been scarce this year.
To be honest, I really don't know whether we've had any ash-fall; no one's mentioned it to me.
That area that's burning above Azusa is near one of my favorite spots in our local mountains. I hope they get it under control soon. But with so many fires burning right now, combined with the unbelievable heat and bone-dry conditions...I don't know.

Ugh... That's awful. [Reminds me of the smog I grew up in, in the 1960s.]
I heard helicopters flying over my house about two hours ago. I'm guessing they were on their way from/to the Bobcat fire. Are they dropping water at night, do you know?
this is the first night i can be outside to smoke my cigar! it's so much nicer tonight then in the past week or so. i hope this will help with the raging fires we have in cali.
Yes, we do have ash-fall. My helper said it started yesterday, and this morning her car was covered, deep, in it.
As I'm typing this, the news said Monrovia residents are being prepped for evacuations--and Sierra Madre and Arcadia could be next. Uh-oh. [But I'm a mile down from the foothills, so I don't think I'll be affected. But my aunt's house is RIGHT before you head up toward Chantry Flat...
It was nice here this morning but the temps have been dropping with the wind out of the North. Currently it is 58.3° with 11mph winds with gusts up around 20. I definitely went to the back of the closet to fetch a long sleeve shirt and jeans. I think the 100's and 90's are over for this year.
yeah it was 109 where i was , i think the people who started this fire with dumb idea to like Pyrotechnic at a Gender reveal party should be fined big time!!!!!!!!!!
