This is my response I received from HTC when I inquired if the Eris was going to get Froyo

Hi, I’m Jesse, and I’ll be glad to assist you today. Thank you for your interest in our great devices. Before releasing a ROM update we have to be sure that the software is going to work properly on your hardware and on your carrier’s network. This testing does take some time but will result in an update that is optimized to work on your device and on your carrier’s network. While we want to release software as soon as we can we will only do so once the software has passed our quality standards. At this time we do not have any information about an update for your device. When the update is released it will be announced on HTC.com. Thank you for contacting HTC America Technical Support. Please feel free to contact us again if you have any future questions.

... well at least it wasn't a flat out "No".

They didn't even have to do that ! That's a generic e-mail that they can use ANYTIME someone e-mails them about an OS update, for any phone, any carrier, and for any OS.

And further, when are you guys gonna learn that CSR's have no clue about an update being released, even if it's the week before. They are not told one way or the other. If you want confirmation one way or the other, then hope for an official release. Even then, don't expect their time-line to be remotely correct. --Lessons learned while waiting for 2.1

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high,
There's a ROM that I heard of
Once in a lullaby.

Somewhere over the rainbow
People with 2.1 V.3 are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true.

Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far
Behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the Eris tops
That's where you'll find me.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Rooter's fly.
Rooter's fly over the rainbow.
Why then, oh why can't I?

If happy little Rooter's fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can't I?

:D

Man people are relentless! :D

The 2.1 OTA (that took forever and a day to arrive) is not even completed yet and we are asking about 2.2?

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but check out this article.

HTC Desire & HTC Incredible Android 2.2 Upgrade Is Now Officially Confirmed; EVO 4G & myTouch to Follow - DeviceMAG

To paraphrase, they only confirm it on the 2010 lineup of phones and not even till the second half of the year. Now it doesn't say other phones won't get it but...
they also say the droid will have it and that came out in 2009. this says eris will get it:

Tsk tsk. Should have done a factory reset.
Tsk Tsk Tsk, already did...Tsk..TWICE...still having problems, might have a fix for it tomorrow though. I have to make sure she wants it fixed, when she went to bed she was saying she was going to try and make them let her upgrade early to the Incredible...
If I fix it she'll have no reason to upgrade.

And it has begun.

Haven't we learned anything from the 2.1 fiasco on this forum? Calling HTC or VZW and asking them about 2.2 is not going to get you anywhere. I just wish we could get a sticky that asked every member to refrain from posting what an HTC employee or VZW employee told them. This board is going to once again be flooded with a dozen posts a week regarding what a lowly employee of some company said with people analyzing it to no end.

Again, we already know that HTC and VZW employees do not have answers for you. You are wasting your time if you're calling them to ask about 2.2. The same thing goes for the people who say they called for reason X so they figured they would ask. Please, save us the space on the front page of this forum.

I love how some people believe the aesthetic needs of the users who LIVE on the forums should be prioritized over easy retrieval of the information that interests most people. As soon as the promise of the next upgrade fades from view, I have no more reason to come here. summary: don't suppress froyo threads. Don't force them all into one long ass thread that no one wants to read.

Lol good point! It wasn't a flat out "No".... But That doesn't sound good. Im usually always an optimistic person, but im kinda doubting us Eris owners getting froyo.

Although its highly unlikely the Eris gets 2.2. I always keep in mind "ANYTHINGS MOTHER F#CKING POSSIBLE ;-)".
