I need to reinstall the Gmail app on my tablet

When I bring Gmail up on my tablet (Huawei BTV Android version 7.0) the program opens then immediately removes itself from the screen. Apparently it is still running in the background, as I can tap the programs that are running, but it just appears, then removes itself from the screen.

This is something that just started happening today, and has worked just fine since buying the tablet perhaps two years ago.

I am wondering if reinstalling the app might fix the problem, but it is a system application, so it cannot be uninstalled.

Any ideas how to proceed from here? I have tried restarting the tablet to no avail, and just am not knowledgeable about such things.

Chrome is used as Android System Webview on some devices.

If you ever wsnt/need to switch, there is a setting yo do do (webview implementation) in developers options.

Sometimes Chrome needs to be disabled in order to make the switch.
