Need Help With Input Jack

I want to use the input jack on my LG G7 ThinQ as a microphone while at the same time allowing sound to playback through the phone speaker if I need to pull up something on YouTube for instance.

I believe there use to be a prompt when I inserted into the jack asking what I was inputting but I don't get that anymore. I could have selected a don't show this again option but I may be thinking about my laptop on that, not sure.

I don't think you can plug a microphone straight into a phone's headphone jack. Is that what you're doing? You can use a phone headset that has a microphone in it, because the 4-way jack(TRRS) is wired for that. Maybe you were thinking about your laptop?

I've used a wireless UHF microphone and USB receiver with a phone, via USB-OTG, and that works no problem.

It seems that there are some mics made for Android, and others that will work if adapters are used.

There are videos on Youtube on this subject.

But getting the speaker to work at the same time will be problematic, because of how the switches work when something is plugged into the headphone/mic jack.

Possibly a bluetooth speaker could be used, because it is not connected/disconnected in the same way when something is inserted/removed with this jack.

This would also help to avoid feedback, as the speaker could be placed in another area.

Actually you can. I've done it many times as this photo will show. It is a dual purpose jack and many phones have them but that information is not usually in the manuals... but a quick search on Google/YouTube will show it. For this shot I was using a Movo VXR10 microphone.


The issue I have is that when you do use an external microphone, the speaker is deactivated; on the G7 at least. I suspect the reason is the phone thinks you're using a headset with a microphone, even though it shows an external microphone option in camera settings. That makes no sense, but anyway. I would like to have the speaker functional as needed when I have a microphone plugged in.

Try a bluetooth speaker, as I mentioned.

A small one can be had for $10, and it will benefit you in better sound and feedback control.

Yes, when I am on I tend to answer quickly, lol.

What you would invest in a speaker would pay you back in simplicity and quality.

Seriously.

I have a few different speakers now, and even the free one from the bank for opening an account (lol) sounds ten times better than the speakerphone in the phone.

Because the speakerphone is a speakerphone.

Anyway, the headset jack has a mechanical switch-- the internal speaker is physically disconnected whenever anything is plugged into it.

This would be a difficult workaround.

Bluetooth speaker = easy
Rewiring/modifying headset jack = difficult

OK that's something I've never used before. But I have used USB wireless mics with Android devices,

That I also use with Macbooks.
