Texting images just stopped...

I have an android phone, LG Stylo 6. All my friends have iphones.

All of a sudden, none of them can text me images anymore. They keep getting some sort of MMS message. My MMS is turned on, but they say they only have SMS on their phones.

Why is it we all could text each other images, and now all of a sudden we can't?

How do you get around this?

I'd check your APN settings (Access Point Names, in you mobile data settings somewhere). These are carrier-dependent, but you should be able to find out what they should be from a web search. But an even simpler test: can you send MMS yourself? If your APNs are wrong you won't be able to.

Another possibility is that the problem is at their end. That may sound unlikely if they all have this problem at the same time, but if they are all using iMessage then if Apple have changed/messed-up something that could cause problems for them all. It might help if you could tell us what this "some sort of MMS message" says.

Of course the best answer is not to use MMS at all. MMS is very poor quality, so any cross-platform messaging apps (WhatsApp, Signal etc) will give you better images - even Facebook Messenger, which compresses heavily, will send at better quality than MMS. And if you are in the USA, where different networks use different technologies, it may be more reliable than the patchwork of different MMS implementations, as well as avoiding any platform-dependent issues. I actually don't know anyone who uses MMS (though here in the UK many carriers also charge a lot for MMS, while everything else is inclusive, which also helped with its demise as a serious option).

I don't get any error messages on my phone, but my friend does. She said this is what she gets "send as sms when imessage is unavailable". She said the guy at the iphone store said their phones don't have MMS on them.

I'm going to see what happens when I turn my MMS off, and have her try to send an image then.

She said she still gets that message. I can send images to myself with or without MMS with no problem.
We've been sending text images before, and all of a sudden her phone wouldnt let her do it anymore.

iMessage should be able to send MMS, provided the iPhone owner's plan includes sending MMS. That's not just my memory, it's what Apple themselves say.

The guy at the iPhone store not knowing what they are talking about doesn't surprise me - and that's nothing to do with being an iPhone store, many phone store assistants generally don't know what they are talking about (I've known some who have been very good, but also some who know nothing but won't admit it).
