Google keeps wanting my DOB.

This is normal for using your Google account. You can choose "only me" or public.....

Started showing demanding pop up notifications last two weeks. This is my single 10 year old Gmail account.

I changed my from my real name showing, about 6 months ago, to a username mainly for You Tube comments.
I can change it back but then I cannot hide my account name. I can hide my DOB sure, and I thought I had done, or else never entered one in 2011/2012.

The account settings you can or can't enter, show or hide don't make sense.

Now my phone keeps telling me I'm a bad guy.

Well what country have you got your Google Account registered for and what country are you actually in?

Because I think Google has to ensure that you're not a minor(child) by you stating your DOB, for data protection laws that they may have to comply with, e.g. COPPA(Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) if you're in the US, or GDPR if you're in an EU country or the UK, etc. etc.

Funny thing is that I had that happen to me on one browser the other week, when I was trying to access a Google doc for some urgent work. I decided I didn't have time for that, tried a different browser and wasn't asked there, not seen it since.

Of course I figured it had to be "confirm you are an adult", so if I get the question again I'll just tell them I was born on the 1st of January 1900 or something like that (absolutely no reason to tell Google the truth, after all).

I've seen it on my phone (Android 10), but not on my old phone (no sim card) on Jellybean.

Thanks for that link which I missed. There are many good points against, and for, in the comments.
They must be under pressure this year from some quarter (I didn't follow it all).

Surely most will put a false DOB or (I did on one account years ago I can't remember where but it was my general age).

Clearly my thinking is nobody should give their full DOB as it's one part of your ID.

Let's see what happens in the future. I've had no notification warning for a couple of days.

That's OK, Google have done their part to comply with whatever laws. What you do, is your business.

Some countries, you have to actually prove ID and age to register and use online services, like with submitting an ID card, driving licence, or other legal documents.

It did come up again over the weekend, I told them the DoB from my previous post, confirmed that I was 121 years old (it asked), done.

Reminded me of the early days of targetted ads, where some browsers asked you to provide some information about yourself to help make ads more relevant to you. I always told them I was an unmarried centenarian living in Antarctica with no money and no interests, and let them do what they liked with that.
