Happy Independence Day

Happy 4th of July America! (And everyone else, though you couldn't care less about just another day in July!)

Please celebrate safely and sanely. If you're in a fire-prone area, like the entire state of California, please don't set off illegal fireworks. Among other things, pets get really scared--shelters report that more lost pets are taken in after the 4th than any other day of the year! And you could burn down your house or your neighbors' houses.

There are plenty of live, safe fireworks shows this year, even on TV. So watch and enjoy! :D

Dogs that bark at nothing for 16 hours straight being bothered by fireworks for a few weeks a year is no concern of mine at all.

In fact, I love it.

I get extras each year (fireworks are legal year-round here) for the sole purpose of lighting them off when I have had enough of the incessant barking and constant stench.

Living in town, yet it smells like a zoo and sounds like a kennel.
And the flys are breeding in droves, spreading the filth through the air wherever the dogs can't reach.

Dogs hurt, aggrevate, and annoy more people than fireworks do all year long.
One day of aural revenge is absolutely nothing.

True story from my childhood. One 4th of July, our beloved dog Amber ran away from home. The fireworks had scared her and she bolted. The next 4th of July she came back home. Obviously she had spent a year with some family that had provider her with love and care. It was good that she came back to us yet sad for whoever had taken care of her for a year. It's remarkable that she found her way back to us a year later.

What you're describing is summed up in four words: bad, irresponsible pet owners (I won't call them 'pet parents' because these types definitely are not ). What you're blaming on the dogs is actually the fault of the owners.

I had multiple Great Danes for decades, and never had so much as one complaint about smell, barking, or anything else. In fact, my dogs were absolutely beloved in my neighborhood and, in my beautiful Freddie's case, at work. Of course, they were LOVED and well-cared for, living in the house like the rest of the family, and properly trained.

It's sad to take revenge on innocent animals. They're barking and stinking up the place because their owners don't take care of them properly. If you want to exact revenge, it should be with the owners. A nasty note in their mail perhaps?

They are far from innocent.
These rotten creatures get loose all the time and harrass people and kill other animals.

The stupid owners- and I WILL call them 'pet parents'- because that is the nonsensical thinking that has made things this way- the idea that these flea bags of noise and filth are better than or equal to people- do nothing to stop the turd burglers from killing 6 of our chickens and the rooster, and now a duck as well.

As for 'something in the mailbox' somehow a dead, mangled chicken found its way in there.

It is ridiculous.
I cannot even work on bicycles anymore, as if you try to ride at all you will be attacked by one of these worthless yardsharks.
A customer recently didn't make it even a block away.

I rarely ride, but when I do I carry a knife, a ball bat, a gun, and a can of wasp & hornet killer.

I tried pepper spray, it is useless and the ground demons just come back for more.
Wasp & hornet spray shoots an accurate stream for 20 - 30 feet and is much cheaper.

Do I care if Mr.Pibbles gets a mouthful of poison foam?
No.
I was attacked.
If someone wants to raise an animal to human level, then the animal must also be responsible for its actions.

The bat is mostly to ward off the owners, who somehow can't seem to mind their mangy beasts until I have to protect myself.
Then they blame me, like somehow it's my fault.

No, these beasts and people are not sane, and so cannot be dealt with.
After spine surgery, my ol'lady had to recuperate at home- and a stupid, worthless yardshark barked for 16 hours straight.

Neither one of us could get any sleep.
It literally started at around 11PM.

I screamed out the window, a mixture of threats and obscenities.
I had lost my marbles over this dumpsterwolf.

The owner of course threatened me right back.

But did he shut the damn dog up?
If course not!

Called the cops, thry said to call Animal Control.
Called Animal Control, and they said to call the cops.

I called and called, and finally they came out.
I was watching as they went to the house.
Dog was going nuts, non-stop barking as usual.

Animal Control claimed to not hear the dog, and said that I needed to get at least three more neighbors to sign affidavits.

Well, almost all of them own dogs, and those that don't cower from those that do.

I, however, will not cower, and if I feel the urge to light off fireworks then I will.

.......soooo
how was everyone's Independence Day? did everyone survive ok?

mine was alright. i would have liked to have been able to relax more. but most of my day was spent brocery shopping, bbq'ing some ribs and vegetables, trying to fix my soundbar but couldn't, going to Best Buy and buying new soundar, trying to install the soundbar on my wall mount, existing soundbar mount would not work with new soundbar, rushing back to Best Buy before they close to get a new wall mount for the soundbar, installing the mount and new soundbar, and finally finished all that in time to drink some beers and watch the fireworks.......soooo relaxing....LOL

Sorry @puppykickr but you're blaming the wrong animal. The dogs ARE innocent. They did not CHOOSE to be left unattended outdoors, to be forced to live in stench from their own excrement, get bitten like crazy by flies and [most probably] fleas, and become noisy and aggressive because that's their only choice for expressing themselves.

It's ALL on the owners. Period.

This has been proven time and time again when 'chained dogs' (as we know them in the animal rights community) are rescued and rehabilitated. They CAN become gentle, calm, quiet, well-behaved indoor family members. It's ALL up to the owners. Period.

I spent the day relaxing. My son was back from his vacation so we had a few beers, spritzed the ribs now and then, and watched up some baseball. Had a great dinner then watched the neighbors set off fireworks. It was the first 4th that I've spent at home in a number of years and I must say it was perfect.

They are giant, wingless dungbeetles.

Dogs exhibit the exact same behavior as flys.

Shoo away a fly, and it buzzes around once or twice and then goes right back to the same place.

Shoo away a dog, the very same thing.

What other creature on earth literally HAS to push its nasty, snot dripping beak up against every single thing it can get near?

Even if you violently kick the thing in its gape mouthed craw, it will just do it again and again.
It has no thought process, so it cannot learn anything.

And all I have to do is stand somewhere, and I will be damned if some stupid, insipid mongrel with less mentality than a cockroach will come over to me and drool right on my shoe or even on me!

I cannot even wear nice clothes if I have to go somewhere where there are dogs.

If I get jumped on and muddy poop filled pawed all over and I get pissed off, the owners blame me!

When I come home I have to put the clothes I had on outside, so that I don't have to smell that stupid, stinking dog on them- or have them transfer the stench to other things as well!

4.5 million Americans are bitten each year, tens of thousands are maimed forever.

Not bad owners, bad products.

A product of Victorian era inbreeding and mutation that did not even exist until the elite became so bored and lazy.

I can tell if someone has a dog from a distance. I can smell it.
It stinks.
If I don't smell it, I can hear it.
It disturbs the peace.

The EPA has even classified dogs#!+ as a biohazard.

Animals that bite people and poop everywhere belong in a zoo.
