Ring keeps disappearing

My wife is having a problem with her phone periodically not ringing, only vibrating, which means she's missing calls.

I turned off Bluetooth to be sure it wasn't going to her headphones, even though I doubted that w
as a problem. I checked sounds and ring tone and it was full volume. I rebooted. Nothing changed

I finally changed the volume of the ring to medium and back up. That worked.

What's going on? She's not technically astute so I'm not sure she'll remember to do this each time. Even worse, she won't realize the problem has occurred and will miss calls. I really need to know what is causing the problem so I can keep it from occuring.

Hoping someone has some ideas.

Some (most?) Androids have an annoying 'feature' that puts the device into silent mode when the volume down button is pressed repeatedly or long pressed.

This can be very frustrating.

Double check everything- the phone case, how she carries it, where she carries it, etc.

This same thing happend with my ol'lady, and still does sometimes.

A simple, small app that can be used to monitor and even set up schedules for all the different volumes on the device is Sound Manager.

But wouldn't the sound setting show that? I didn't try the volume up button because the setting showed full volume, but she may well have pressed the toggle trying to lower the volume from an audio book or perhaps just by accident.

As with my ol'lady, I gave up trying to analyse how, when or why.

All I can do is offer possible solutions.

You could, however, follow her around all day and monitor her every movement with the device in the hopes of discovering how/why the volume gets changed.

Anyway, the app could be used to ensure that the volumes are set properly at any certain time (say, first thing in the morning) and even at multiple times daily if necessary.

Unless you can get her to become excessively aware about her device and its volume settings, it may remain a mystery forever.
