Help Galaxy M31 Help with applying a rom

I wanted to root (and apply a rom on) my Galaxy M31 but either the few tutorials out there confused me or I coudnt find anyone to help with my questions. So I hope i can find some answers here.
Its a phone from the eu and i can unlock the bootloader in the dev settings
  1. I heared I should apply a rom first and after that root my phone. Is that correct? (cause i think so ill skip questions for rooting)
  2. There is only a LineageOS version for Android 10 is that a problem? (or is there maybe another OS that has Android 11 Support for my device)
  3. How do I backup my device and what can not be.
  4. And how do I apply the rom and root it?

1. nope you need to flash recovery first, root, make a nandroid backup(twrp), wipe, and then flash a custom rom
2. are you looking for android 11? you can flash anything does not matter what android os the rom is based off as long as it was made specifically for your phone.
3. you will need twrp recovery to make nandroid backups. we will talk about that once you have it installed.
4. here is the guide to get you twrp and root the phone:

sorry i was in and out of the office so i did not have access to a computer until i got home. you have to read the thread. the answers to your question is in the thread. but i have the answers for you as far as the files go:

vbmeta:https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...twrp-permanently.4187991/page-2#post-84151199
twrp:https://gofile.io/d/sf8xuv

flashing twrp will not delete data. you can backup most of your app data thru smart switch so do not worry about data to much. also keep in mind that smart switch will not backup text. look up samsung smart switch to see what is backed up.

also unlocking the bootloader will not erase data. all you are doing is going into dev mode and enabling oem bootloader unlock. flashing twrp will not delete data.

from what i have heared you need to unlock the bootloader not just allow it in the dev settings?
but that would wipe my data. so i would need to back it up and then unlock it.
Backing up now with smart switch, could unlock it now
