Cannot Link Facebook Contacts in 2.1

Since I updated to 2.1, I am not able to link my contacts to my Facebook friends. I am signed in to Facebook through "Facebook for HTC Sense" (when I click "Add Account" and choose "Facebook," it won't do anything)but when I go to a contact and try to link to a friend, there is no one on the list.
I have tried logging out and back in, then restarting the phone, but that hasn't fixed the problem. Does anyone have any info.?

Also, is anyone else having the keyboard refuse to work when trying to send a text?

I'm having the same issues, by upgrading to the 2.1 it seems that we simply exchanged old problems for new ones. I think I might just go with a custom ROM and root my phone.

Anybody know if Verizon users are having the same issues with the 2.1 that was released for the Droid Eris?

Found this on another page...

yea when you setup your phone, you probably entered your fb info. Go into your settings and uncheck the fb sync box and restart your phone. that took care of it for me

you won't be able to root your phone since the 2.1 update disables the ability to root. sorry!

refer to this method in my thread here

the workaround that I used for this issue... I noticed that the only contacts that would sync were the ones that I had their emails as part of their contact info and that email matched the one from their FB, so I added the emails to the rest of my contacts and now they sync without any issue, I just edited the contacts on gmail just to make it easier for me. BTW give it a while for them to sync.

Well, I'm glad that worked for you, my friend, but no dice for me. I also spent an hour on the phone with Sprint Tech Support, all for naught. It appears, though, that there's SOMETHING screwed up with my phone, and it involves the fact that I have both the "Facebook" and "Facebook for HTC Sense" account options under "Accounts & sync." The tech support employees who only had the "Facebook for HTC Sense" option were able to sync without any problem. She had me do a factory reset and it did no good; now I get to spend another two hours setting up my phone again tonight. This is BS.

you may just want to refer to android forums before calling sprint. sad to say, but we kno more than they do. they may not be rooted or have the official rom so linking their contacts won't be hard at all since it wasn't an issue before the update came out.

did u try the method i gave this thread within the link up above? you're not the only one having this problem so there isn't anything wrong with your hero..it's the update..something with the com.htc.bg or something of that nature that's preventing your phone to sync with your facebook contacts.

now if you go to your photos app and click on the facebook icon, all your facebook contacts will show up. photos app=check. people app=wtf?

now that's bs.

So after another call to Sprint Tech Support, it looks like they're just going to send me a new phone. According to the tech, sometimes certain phones just won't work properly when the release software updates. Whatever--I'll give it a shot. And, if the first one they send me doesn't work, I guess they can just keep sending me phones until I find one that does, lol!

Yes, I did try the method you suggested--no dice. And, you're right about the Photos app. This is f'ing lame....

OK, so my scientific method wasn't top notch when I was messing around with my Eris but one of these two things got my contacts to link with Facebook. First, after about an hour of trying and retrying everything I disabled the auto sync for HTC Sense and hammered the sync now button 20-30 times...frustration. I didn't check to see if that worked before I tried something else so you might have to try both. Next I just snapped a pic and uploaded it to Facebook using the option for HTC sense. After it uploaded I went and looked at my contacts and they had already all been linked. So one of the two things I did worked, not sure which one. Hope this helps!
