I have a buddy that asked me if there was a safe Android app to use to access his Google Drive stored music folder, to shuffle his songs while he goes on his bike ride.

I mentioned the only app I knew that was free was Cloudbeats, but didn't know how safe it was, as I recall someone mentioning it required permission for full Drive access. So not sure how safe that is.

I told him I'd post on our website, So my question to the astute Android user here, are there any recommended apps that you recommend that are safe to use and allow access to Google Drive for music and allow his music to shuffle.

I don't know, myself.
So I did a search, 'playing music from Google Drive', and here is the first thing that popped up.
(I intentially avoided any Youtube videos.)

Hopefully, within the settings of Google Drive, you can add your favorite music player.

If not, then there seems to be more than one way to accomplish this.

The permission to allow access to the entire Drive account is a scary permission, but like all things like this, of course the permission would be necessary for the app to be able to do this.

Perhaps adding a music player to the settings within Drive allows this to work without such a permission, or perhaps that is exactly what adding the app does- gives apps this permission.

That is a call you will need to make on your own.

But can you restrict an app's Drive access to one directory?

And if you can, how do you specify what directory that is? Because you have to provide a simple interface for that or else many people won't figure it out, and hence won't use your app.

I'm asking out of curiosity: I've no intention of using Drive this way, but it might be handy to know.

I will send him this info, I believe he did google also and something else came up for Drive, can't remember what he said but the app was no longer available, I think it was something about Android and not offering the GDrive option for Abroid, but I'll ask and forward, cheers

Ok.
I used Duckduckgo, not Google when I did the search.

I never use Google, and would be especially wary of using it to look up anything regarding Google products, like Drive.
