Handcent is awesome, in fact mine just updated and its even better now. new settings menu and fonts! Just DO NOT use antivirus or ATK with it. major bugs.
If it's the same issue lots of us were having, then its just a notification error that needs to be disabled in the original messenger. There's a thread on here for this. The mms still sends, even though the notification shows a problem.
Handcent is a super clean messenger app. The cool thing about it is you can try it, or chomp, or others, and doesn't cost you anything. It's a simple 'uninstall' to remove if you dislike it. Just spend a few minutes and customize it to your liking.
I like the update too, but now my vibration function has stopped working when I receive texts. I checked all the settings, and neither being set to always vibrate or vibrate when the phone is in vibrate mode (which it is) works.
Download SMS Unread Count from the market (free). It takes the place of the Handcent icon. It shows you the number of unread messages and you can also change the name of the widget.
Just downloaded the new version... so much easier to customize. I didn't keep the old version, but I think I'm keeping this one. I just need a way to change the icon on my home screen, I can't stand the Handcent icon for some reason. Any ideas?
The thing is, Handcent and Chomp are almost exactly the same applications. I've been using Chomp just because it seems to handle more text messages + MMS better.
The only thing I prefer from Chomp over Handcent is the fact that it has a simple and cleaner looking pop up. Plus, I always had issues with Handcent and the keyboard turning and messing up when you're using the Handcent pop up.

Same. I used Handcent for the first couple weeks I had the Inc, but recently switched to Chomp. It's very, very similiar but for whatever reason Chomp seems to run better and faster. No idea why or if it's even true, just what I've noticed.
Chomp throws ads in your face when you're in the message list and settings whereas Handcent only displays ads when you're in the settings. I'll stick with Handcent for now just because of that.
