Fresh 2.1.2...

I think I read one too many horror stories of lag, problems, and quirks to chance the official. Glad I didn't, and instead opted for Fresh. Root was a one click affair (less than 20 secs) and installed, fresh 2.1.2, radio update, su fix, but gonna hold off on the new vanilla android screen, as it looks like some are having trouble w/ it going into emergency call mode when setting airplane mode. Plus, see it on the Moment and don't really care that much one way or another, instant clock gratification or not.

Glad to have have all the crapware off my phone... though thinking about installing the voice search. Even though the HTC IME keyboard (best or should I go w/ xda keyboard?) nips that in the universal butt what with the mic icon that tested, works flawlessly. But I like to use the google widget and having a usable mic icon instead of it being an empty void. Just need to figure out how to use Fresh Kitchen to install. Although I see the list of stock apps in the app window, I don't see an install button. Anybody know why? Maybe I need to put the removed apps zip somewhere for the FK to pick it up? I'm sure I could probably do via Hero in Android from SD, but admittedly haven't checked it out yet. Just enjoying the new.

Too early to really tell, but so far so good. Just installed a 16GB SDHC and feels like a brand new phone

I have found two easy ways to install apps when you just have the APK.

1) Go to the Market and get Astro File Manager. Then, copy the APK file that you want to install to your SD card, dismount your phone, and launch Astro. Browse to the APK files (they'll look like apps, with the correct icon and everything) on the SD card, and click on it and tell Astro to install.

2) use ADB from the Android Developers Kit. Then, from your computer, just

$adb push <location of APK file on your computer> /system/apps/.

Both work, both are simple. In general, I like keeping a folder on my SD card, and using Astro. That makes it easy for me to reinstall apps I like that aren't in the market (News Genie, Car Home, etc.) whenever I flash a new ROM.

as far as .apk, can't you just click on it from any file manager in rooted 2.1 and get it to install? thought i remember seeing a setting in menu a bit ago about installing programs from sd card, but phone is charging right now and i have a nice butt groove in the couch

If you have sync installed, it will install apk's for you. just download them, and open them with your phone connected to your pc, and it should walk you through with prompts... make sure you have usb debug enabled, and unknown sources checked in the settings>applications menu..

I am not sure, as I've never had much use for the stock apps. I think that there is a tutorial or help section in the kitchen somewhere... maybe you could check that out. Or search on flpz website for a tutorial of some kind. Sorry for the vagueness, I really only use the kitchen to boot to recovery.

download the zip file of all the apps that Flipz removed from Fresh 2.1.2. Place those APKs in the folder called My_Apks. If you took all the defaults when installing it'll be C:\Program Files\Fresh Kitchen\my_apks

then start Kitchen. click on tools and add remove programs. you should see your newly added apk files listed. Select the one(s) you want to add. pick Install from teh drop down box (bottom left/center) and click GO.

yes you can.

you will loose a good amount of free space, so if you have a lot of apps installed or lots of info stored on the phone you may run low on space.

the reason being is that 2.1.2 is deodexed while 2.1.1 is not (read the 2.1.2 download page for details).

Is there any way of getting Live Wallpapers working with Rosie in 2.1.1?

Also, I noticed that you can no longer add symbols like @ into dictionary additions since 2.1. Is there any way to rectify this? I likes when I had to enter my email address all I had to do was bring down the word list and choose it. o,O;

what's rosie exactly? i think i read it before, but the only a google shows is a previous test build name of android if I'm not mistaken...
