Please help: my phone app quits after one second...

Hi,
I am on a trip away from home and the phone app of a quite unknown phone (Medion X5020) with a stock Android 5.0 does not work any more.
A soon as I click on the phone symbol the phone screen comes and quits immediately.
The SMS symbol does the same.
I tried -naturally- to reset my phone that does not help.
I tried to clean the SIM, no effect.
There is also no phone/SMS app from which i could delete the cache or reinstall, it's hard stock from the manufacturer.
Reset to factory would help, but then i would lose all my software bank validators, and be unable to restore them, since the bank sends the new code at the home address.

What can I do to revive my essential phone functionality without resetting the whole phone?
Can i read some logs somewhere?
Just quitting without any information is so brutal!
Thank you...

P.S. could it be linked to the end of 3G?
On the bar the provider s diplayed with "orange 4g" and -even if it did not work the phone should be able to fall back to 2G.

Try starting it in safe mode, but that will only run with basic functionality, and no user installed apps. An Android 5.0 phone rather old now, and so it could actually be it's developed a hardware fault. If it is that case really the only thing you can try is resetting it, but that's about it.

When you say your bank sends your codes to your home address, Is that by post, like via the postal system?! Can't they send them by email instead?

I don't think a carrier turning of their 3G network would cause apps to crash. A phone would no longer be able to get service.

You say that there is no Phone app to delete cache from.

Try again, but when going into the apps pages, find the overflow icon (three dots) and tap Show system.

(Phone is a system app, it is quite possible that only user apps are displayed normally.)

Being an Android 5 I cannot remember if it was an overflow icon or a separate apps page just for system apps.

Also, being that the Phone app crashes, the only time I have seen this is when there is no service.

Are you roaming, with that capability turned off on the device?

Does your carrier provide service where you are now?
