So I have been using a Steinheil Crystal Clear...and noticing I've been making a ton more typing mistakes with Swype. I also noticed that instead of just a fingerprint of two...the oil from your skin causes rainbow effects.

I've read on here that you can take them off and put them back on...so I decided to take it off and see how I did on Swype.....worlds better. Worlds.

So now my question is..... I use the Nexus One pouch for the phone... So it isn't going to get scratched in my pocket...

Do I put the Steinheil back on? Keep it off? The screen is sooo beautiful bare. And soooo much easier....Aaaaaigh....

It could be your Steinheil is too thick (i.e. defective) and not allowing the screen to register your finger accurately. Or, you could go naked. Or, you could invest in another screen protector.

FWIW, my screen is equally as responsive whether I have my Zagg Invisible Shield on it, or not.

For now, try to get a replacement Steinheil, and see if that works. I never used them, so I have no experience with their customer service. But, I'm sure if you let them know your situation they'll let you replace it.

I've noticed I get the annoying rainbow effect with the Steinheil screen protector, too. So I've been debating taking it off. I saw a video a little while ago that showed a "scratch test" for the Incredible screen. It didn't seem to scratch when coins, etc were thrown at it.

No experience with Swype and the screen protector, though.

Also I have the insurance so if something does happen to happen to it when its out of the N1 case..... would insurance cover it?

Granted that means they would have an Incredible to replace it with.

I will say the naked glass...after a week with the Steinheil on it....feels sooo much better.

And as much as the Crystal is damn clear...I have noticed it still is nicer looking without it.

I had choices like this. Extra protection. OR extra usability (at least for me).

Huh. I actually Swype better with the Steinheil Crystal Clear. It makes the surface smoother for me.

same here, I find it smoother when swyping. But I agree with the OP that the finger smudges is annoying. I'm constantly having the need to wipe the screen clean from the those prism effects the oil makes. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a clear protector if it makes the screen harder to see with use. It's only "Crystal Clear" if you dont touch it...LOL

When I first put on the crystal clear (instead of the AF) I found it alot harder to swype as my finger would tend to "stick" However after a few days, it seems alot smoother. I'm not sure if its been smooth after being in my pocket so much or my finger is different now or what.

As for rainbow effect, I see none at all. sure I suppose if my hand is covered in alot of grease and I don't wipe my hand off before using it, I'll see a rainbow effect, but I usually try to use the phone with a clean hand. I don't think one can blame the screen protector for this, as this would happen with the glass or pretty much any screen protector. just make sure to wipe off your fingers before you use the screen.

I think it's because your oils rub off on the screen, making it smoother.
