I have service thru straight talk off of ATT Towers. My phone is a US996 which is supposedly completely "carrier neutral".

Just now got a text from Straight Talk that unless I got a new SIM( huh??) from them, my service will cease on Feb 22.

The question is..... Is this true??

I do have the option of switching to Verizon since the US996 has the bands to do either AT&T OR Verizon.

BTW, the rom is stock..... version 10F. It's been BL unlocked, TWRP installed and rooted using SuperSU.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Boowho??

All three US carriers (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile) require phones to support VoLTE now. That also means all the MVNO carriers also require Volte for any phone you want to activate. If your phone doesn't support VoLTE on any of the three main carriers you'll need a new one soon.

Sounds like the SIM card they sent you is for Verizon? Check if your current phone is compatible with Verizon:

OK, got the new SIM card from Straight Talk yesterday. What it does is take me off of AT&T and puts me on Verizon.

Now data 4G LTE works but voice does NOT. ST support (so far) is unable to fixit.

I thought that with Verizon EITHER 4G LTE OR VoLTE would work. Maybe not?? US996 completely carrier neutral.

Also the voice side is VERY intermittent. Some calls go thru, others do not.

Help if you can!!!

I checked with verizon IMEI checker on line. Since it formerly worked just fine. They say NOW it won't work; pretty sure they black listed it since they know it's a US996 and root-able Patriot Mobile which "rides" on T-Mobile. Patriot Mobile checked the IMEI and said bring it over to us.

F*** Verizon and AT&T; I'm off to Patriot Mobile.

Tried Patriot Mobile but could not get my number ported over from straight talk. So I'm back to running on Verizon thru Straight Talk.

But guess what?? Now the 4G LTE AND voice is working perfectly. I think it may have something to do with a problem that my Verizon acct was locked in such a way that only about 1% of Verizon accounts get this particular error. Patriot Mobile worked VERY hard on my behalf; even contacting Verizon directly. Something in that communication fixed the voice on ST/Verizon.

So, I'm going to wait a month or so and then Patriot again. FWIW, (a lot to me) EVERY Patriot agent I spoke with had NO thick accent instead spoke perfect English. THAT means a LOT to me.

Not true with T-Mobile. My device is NOT VOLTE and works just fine on TM.
